1200 DVT Bodywork Removal Hints, Tips, Instructions

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by bradders, Nov 6, 2016.

  1. I have searched, here, Ducati MS, Google, Youtube and come up blank. So apart from needing it myself, thought may be worth sharing experience too

Any guides on removing the bodywork? I need to take the tank cover off, and am struggling with the side panels; can't see if they are slide, pop off or some bolts I'm missing. Don't want to damage anything, and know a few on here have stripped them, tips really appreciated!

  2. This is not going to be a great help, but I took my panels off to fit rad/oil cooler guards, when I first bought my dvt, I do remember it was a bugger to get the panel gaps right when replacing them
I've also read of some new buyers returning there bikes due to poor panel gaps ( I did say it would be of no help)

  3. Is it worth having a look at the spare parts download from Ducati which will show all the bolts and you can check if yiu have accounted for them all?

  4. Sorry Bradders, I wish I could remember how they came off
Jimvee may well have a good idea there though

  5. Does this help?

  6. Or this maybe?

  7. It does because I can see the side panel doesn't appear to connect anyway to the tank cover

  8. Paul, just sent you a pm.

  9. That's right. The outer (painted) side panel only connects to the inner (black) side panel. And the inner side panel is what connects to the tank cover.

When reassembling, if the inner panel is not aligned exactly right, the outer panel will never align correctly.

  10. I am grateful to my learned friend for his Pedantry.

I must admit as the O/P did not mention a specific year I assumed the bodywork was the same throughout the range and should there be any differences, then the basic bones I had supplied would mean that the o/p could look along that link and fine tune their search

I must admit my 1200 strada knowledge is limited sometimes, being a strada 1000 owner I had forgotten that the mulstitrada section within in this forum is often called, help my 1200 is shite :tearsofjoy:

  12. It's ok, I managed to spot that and amend accordingly and bookmark the site :upyeah:

  13. Yeah I found and watched that several times but he doesn't really cover the side panels that well. The link I put on is his post taking them off

  14. Do you mean the black 'air tube' covers? They just slide on...

  15. No it's the white (on my bike) side covers that stretch tank to seat. Although the upper black ones are such a pita I decided not to bother and will add the oil rad guard later

  16. Try these Bradders......might not be the same make as your rad guard, but great instructions for removing bodywork.

    :grinning:
