Alright troops, after having a little peruse I thought i'd join this forum as its seems to be the hub of Ducati knowledge. I come from a mainly car background and apart from recent I haven't really ridden since my 125 days (DTR125) . I always had a soft spot for bikes though so I took my full test in April 2018 and purchased a Street triple 675R, unfortunately around August time said Triumph ended up in a local hedge after letting a friend test ride it and since then I have been abroad in numerous countries for work. Had my sights set on a Daytona on return but another mate suggested an 899 and after spending time looking about for them Im hooked so will be purchasing one probably in February, latest march. Biggest drama for me is deciding between a 959 and a 899, i've read that unless your a massively experienced rider the difference between the two is hardly noticeable and be best to spend the lesser amount and get an 899? Any tips on this choice would be massively appreciated. If I could I would purchase something bigger however due to my age (26) and lack of time with a license, an 899/959 is really the limit I'm prepared to spend on insurance (1.3k for 4k miles). Track time is definitely something I want to get into, other members of my household regularly track a 991.2 GT3 and M2 Comp so Id like to be the black sheep and do it on two wheels. Ive got a novice track day while renting another bike booked for April and I hope to do a long European trip around June time, 44teeth's trip to Mugello looked fantastic and going down there with a Ducati would be a dream. So yeah, sorry for the dissertation. Any tips from you all on this purchase conundrum would be appreciated. Bondy
With those scary insurance figures i'd take a look at the 848 and see if that works any better. Proper Ducati look/feel and a cracking bike to ride. Had mine a few years and loved it.
Well have a while yet to plan. And yes that's always been my method when it came to cars as well, rather have the power and not need it than long for more
Yeah I had a look at those at the start of the year, they look awesome Could be a good idea to get a years no claims on one before moving to something with a V or a 12 at the start of its name .However I'm thinking of a PCP kind of deal and the 848 does miss the 4 year old window. But then again as cheaper could mean no need for a PCP. Thanks for making my 1 or the other conundrum even more complicated mate! Aha
Id pay that, but thats my limit. However I've literally just done a quote for an 1198 and I've got 900 quid quoted for that?! Im so confused. Literally not sure where in the range to go. Older and more grunt or newer with less? That is the question.
Well end of feb time when I'm back ill have to test ride them and see what ever tickles my pickle, cant wait to bring one home but as we all know the search is one of the best parts of the journey.
Welcome Bondy. Have you considered something earlier like a 748/916/996? It'd give you all you want at this stage in your biking career and appreciate rather than depreciate in value, unless another mate chucks it in the hedge . But you won't get PCP on it. Having said that you may be able to pick one up for about the same as the deposit on the PCP. ps. Why you get a Cyprus flag on your avatar when you state you're in Cornwall is beyond me.
No, I'll be honest with you mate those models don't give me the same throb that the 899 does. I'm one of those for me to own a vehicle I have to look at it and go 'yeah' if you get me aha. Reference the Cypriate flag, currently based here for work atm and it must have gone of the IP address
aha, that explains it. F88k knows where I live coz my flag got disappeared months ago! I get you. For me, its the 748/916/996/998's that do it, but I agree the Panigale's are cool.
If the insurance is ok then the 1198 is your best option as they are awesome and have pretty much bottomed out in value - the last of the 'proper trellis framed V2 Dukes' Try and stretch to an S model if you can...
Yeah I'm gonna have to test ride them and more importantly I think ring up this insurance company MCE .There majorly undercutting everyone on the comparison sites and I've done some research about Inc here and word has it that when you ring up they bump the price up and/or when you need to use them their customer service is nigh on useless. Who knows, can't wait to get back and start picking everything .Good problem to have anyway!
