Right then, help wanted please. I'm after a new pair of touring type boots and I really want a pair of Daytona (Roadstar or MStar). But as much as I really really want a pair, they have a bloody stupid zip design, it starts towards the front of the boots then curves up the leg, which is ok if you have the right shaped foot but I'm sorry to say I haven't  What I would like to know, can anyone suggest a boot that's as good as the Daytona but with zips that accommodate normal feet ? Thanks in anticipation :
I bought TCX Infinity. They've covered about 50k miles and have never let in. They are reasonably comfy for walking around in too. I take a 10 and I'd say the fit is maybe just a little cramped. They have a thick sole which comes in handy if you're not gifted with a lot of leg length.
I've got a pair of TCX X-on Road Gortex. They're a short version of the X-Tour from what I can see. I bought them last summer to wear with jeans and to avoid sweaty calves with leathers but they've become my do-everything boot. They're not sweaty in summer, totally waterproof and they're even warm on all day winter rides. And they all-day comfy for walking around. I like the fact the zip and velcro flap is on the outside of the leg. I've got a pair of Alpinestars that zip up on the inside and the flap constantly chafes against the frame tubes on my KTM and pulls the velcro undone. As a proper touring boot the X-on Road might be a touch short unless you've got long trouser legs to keep the water out (though the few times I've been caught in the rain I've had no trouble) but on this showing if I want some longer touring boots I'll be looking at TCX Gortex first.
I don't have any recommendations you asked for :tearsofjoy:, but I wanted to say I have the Daytona Roadstar GTX and I find them totally awesome. I was initially wary of the zip design, I worried about pulling the zip around the curved part from the top of the foot to going up the leg. Now after 3 years I think the zip is one of best features of the boot, super quick to put on & take off and causes no issues.
+1 on the Daytonas. Nothing odd about the shape of my feet and have no issue with the zip. I wonder if you are confusing the zip of the race boot ? I have a pair of Roadstars which have straight zips and a pair of the 2 part race boots where the zip looks like the profile of a sledge. Aside from needing a bigger size (47 and 49) they are the best boots I have ever worn. Andy
Thanks for the reply's everybody, I really think the Daytona boot is as good as everyone says they are, and I have tried quite a few times now to get them on in a couple of shops. My foot feels great in the boot but I have struggled to get the zip past the curve on the boot, one salesperson said that a few people have failed to do them up, and she believed it is because the instep on some people's feet are too tall. So I'm still looking.
Why not have a look @ Alpinestars SMX-6 Goretex: for me absolutely brilliant Really great fit, quality, dry and warm when needed to be, also far, far cheaper than the Daytona stuff
