Am I right in thinking each one was signed on the tank by the man himself? Should also have had a cover, plaque and paddock stand?

Only the American market bikes were signed. They also were supplied with carbon fibre fairings, all done to soften the blow of not having the higher powered deep sump engine which did not meet the U.S. emissions regs. The UK bikes had standard red plastic fairing panels painted and stickered up. The tanks were unsigned but we did get the full power deep sump testastretta engine. Another misconception is that there were 155 bikes for the UK, there were in fact 155 built for each of the 3 markets - USA, Europe (which included the UK) and the "rest of the world". I read that there were only around 26 bikes delivered into the UK which I think might have equated to 1 for each dealer at the time. They came with the plaque, a specific "155" Bostrom indoor cover and I think a blue paddock stand. Mine is number 153. registered new in the UK 2003.
All Bostrom (and Bayliss) numbered special edition 998S's were indeed signed by each of them respectively. However where the owner had to order a replacement tank from the factory for whatever reason down the line, the new replacement tank had all the right colours/livery save for the original signature (for obvious reasons).
Many different answers. That’s why google is pointless for this sort of thing. The bike I was interested in sold at auction 2 weeks ago for £18k. It’s now in a dealer for just under £24k.
Must have had a good crowd in order to reach 18K on the hammer. Definitely a home record for a 998S Bostrom, as its paintwork did not generally make it appealing to most (at least not as much as it was in the US).
@mary hinge horse burger if you 're set on a 998S, there appears to be a low mileage one owner 998 SFE for 18K up in Thirsk listed in Autotrader at the moment.
I’m happy with my 998 but saw the bostrom going for auction. Last one I saw in a dealer was £15.5k which I think was realistic. £18k at auction, no thanks. It had the plaque, blue paddock stand but no cover, tank no signed but a genuine UK bike
