Brake Caliper Removal

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by Kev Meers, Dec 21, 2013.

  1. Hello,
should the front brake calipers just unbolt and lift away from the disc?

Tried to remove mine the other day and there isn't enough clearance to just lift them away, do I need to remove the pads too? or does something sound not quite right ?

season greetings and best wishes to all

  2. HI Kev,
yep, remove the pads and they will come away no probs. You might have to push the pistons back a little too depending on how worn your pads where.

All the best to you too.

  3. its a tight squeeze, you might have to flex the pads back and forth against the rotor to open them out a little, protect the wheel paint with a cloth between caliper and wheel, lif the caliper staright up then as the caliper reaches the edge of the rim tilt it towards you a little and it should slide out easily

  4. Thank you all...

  5. Aye, +1 for what has been said. Just flex the caliper back and forth a wee bit to push the pads back and then they will come off, but it is a bit of a faff.

  6. Yes - the easiest thing to do is just take the pads out... Only takes a couple of minutes and saves a lot of hassle...
