brake pads/discs issues

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by serious3, Apr 7, 2014.

  1. i've an st4s with blackshadow discs fitted and the previous owner fitted ebc hh pads, the issue i'm having is under normal braking i'm getting shudder, but if i grab the lever hard i get no shudder..... the head bearings have been checked and are good to go, just wondering what to do maybe change pads?

  2. could be pads of course, partly seizing piston(s) in caliper would also cause similar effect. Studying pads on removal might reveal all. Discs ok? - no kickback/pulsing at lever on light application?

  3. discs were fitted by the PO in november and about 500 miles on them, so they are practically brand new. guess i'll pull the pads and have a look see later on

  4. My money is on something else other than the pads, maybe sticking piston. I fitted a set of the EBC HH pads to my 996 last year and they are awesome. The old pads were ferrodo ones and i dunno how long they had been on - loads of meat left, but felt useless. The HH were good from the start. I also changed the brake fluid whilst i was at it, as the stuff in the reservoir was dark orange!

  6. I have the same set up on the same bike and I get exactly the same. It is purely the EBC HH pads being grabby and exacerbated slightly by the SS discs.

I'm just going to bin the pads for Carbone Lorraines as soon as I can.

The EBC HHs are just grabby.

  7. Ive never had any probs with ebc HH pads, found them to be good.

  8. +1 for no probs with EBC HH pads.

Sounds like your calipers need a clean.

  9. Not finding them grabby yet, but i run Carbon Lorraine on my R1 and my god they are awesome.

  10. I'll pull the calipers off and have a look, asked the previous owner about it and he said it was doing it before and that's why he swapped for black shadow discs and new pads.....

  11. Are all the bobbins on the disc's working as they should, disc's should float if not shuddering will occur.

  12. take the pads out and use course sand paper and rub the surface like feck.....then spin the wheel while sanding the disk faces and finish with brake cleaner. then check all the brake disk bobbins are free and spin etc and if needed service your calipers. it sounds like your disk surface is contaminated.

  13. I was thinking the same idrinkbeer! The discs look erm stripey not uniform like the discs on my other bike. Bobbins are tight and that's how they should be according to black shadow

  14. a threaded bat with two nuts....use this to clamp each bobbin and then spin using an electric drill and maybe a little graphite. this will help.
