Brake Pedal Foot Peg Rubber

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, May 18, 2023.

  1. I want to remove the brake pedal rubber on the below, then remove the metal rod inside as well (to use on another bike). Is there a trick to removing the rubber without damaging?

  2. No, if its original, it'll be really firm now and have no rubberyness left (is that even a real word )
I don't think you could remove without damaging. Are they still available from Ducati perhaps or somewhere like Mdina Italia?

Some rubber care solutions make the rubber a bit softer, but I think it may be too solid at 30 odd years old.

The rod itself is riveted into the arm, which itself is not a straightforward removal and reinstalling it could also be quite a challenge. I once saw someone had just put a bolt in which was clearly an easier, if more ugly, solution.

If you decide this route, I'd be very keen to see results as I'd think it could be quite tricky.

  3. Lift edge. Squirts of wd40 or similar. Rotate a few times and slide off. If really tight ease with small flat head screwdriver.

  4. warmth

  5. Maybe soaking in hot water first might improve the flexibility of the rubber?

  6. Thanks, I used some GT85, and it moves a bit. I was hoping to transplant it onto another pedal assembly, which has the aforementioned Frankenstein bolt as a nice finishing touch. Sounds like it could be a major PITA though.

  7. The rod, with rubber attached, fell off my first Ducati 900SS as I was riding it home after buying it. A great intro to ownership.
A mate kindly took the lever, made a replacement rod out of shiny metal with a threaded end and tapped threads into the lever. So all I had to do was buy a new rubber which were readily available in 1994!
He actually made 2 of the shiny metal rods but I can't remember where the spare one is in my garage, otherwise I could measure it up for you to copy.
I do have another set of foot controls and the rivet end has been subjected to excessive force by a previous owner and it is now wobbly, so I will probably be drilling it out if I can fine the spare part I put away safely nearly 30 years ago. its not lost - I know its in there somewhere - just not currently visible.

  8. use a slim spanner to get behind it using the jaws of said spanner...
