brake reservoir leak?

  1. Hi guys if been out for a ride today up to the snake pass. Bike was really awesome but boy does it need fuel, Iv filled it three times day.....
Oh and when I got home noticed some brake fluid on the inside of my screen above the brake reservoir. The pipes look fine, Could it need a reservoir?

  2. Its funny you mention this because i had the same yesterday!
I put it down to my son grabbing it saying "whats this?".
I wiped the oil off, checked the cap screws were in, wiped all round the general area and went out again to see if it happened again ... but nothing.

I will be keeping an eye on it for a while though.

  3. Are you sure it's brake fluid?

    Might be coolant

  4. Especially if the bike is a 916/748/996/998 as the coolant header tanks tend to split and can then spray a fine mist up inside the screen when hot.

  5. Mine had an oily texture to it when rubbed between my fingers and was clear... ill be out on it this afternoon so will post in technical section if it returns.
    (Mines an 848)

  6. I think the OP's bike is a 1098 in which case it's quite likely to be a small hole in the rad

  7. plus ça change...

  8. Check the inlet connection into the rubber seal on the master cyl.

  9. Check the fluid level. If it's overfilled, they weap/breath a little as things warm up. it's best set at 5mm or so below max

  10. I have already lower the brake fluid level and cleaned the rubber cap butt still did it. I will investigate more, I never thought about the rad leaking.
    These ducati are interesting.
    Cheers..

  11. It turned out to be the bleed nipple on the brake master cylinder weeping.
Phew,,cheap fix . Rad all fine...

  12. Moved over the General Discussion :)

  13. Get a couple of old socks (black preferably) and cut 3" off the tops; then fold them so the cuts are inside leaving you with a band about 30-40mm wide.......then ease it over the MC so it fits around the cap and reservoir 'join'......prevents excess brake fluid getting sucked out by the wind which has got onto the threads when checking / filling.......or by overfilling.

  14. cheers for helping me out with a way of identifiying coolant and brake fluid in the future..
So thats what the reservoir socks are a for.... im learning it may be slow but i am.

  15. I traded my Honda crosstourer for a multistrada 3days ago starting to regret it already. Fuel gauge not working and a leaking front break res

  16. Is the res leaking? I've heard a few this last few days yet none ever before?! Check the bleed nipple is nice and tight after the obvious check that the res cap is, then thats its not over-filled
