Brake Upgrade On M1100 S

Discussion in 'Monster' started by folbjo, Nov 21, 2021.

  1. Will be upgrading the brakes on my 1100 RS this winter.
All of the brakes are original on this1100 S. What is to be fitted are Brembo M4 calipers.

Then the big question becomes, which brake pump from Brembo should I choose for this setup ?.
My choice is then between Brembo rcs 19 or rcs 17 ?.

Next question will be, should I choose corsa corta or not ?.
As I understand it, rcs 19 works best with original calipers, and rcs 17 best with upgraded calipers?

I'm going to go for the black M4.
I will paint the lower part of the forks also in black to match the calipers

Price is not the most important thing here. I want the best combo.
It is my canyon carver, and preferably this is where it will be used.

  2. Great idea to upgrade your calipers - I have an M1100S and fitted 4 pad Brembos (749/999 type) many years ago as the original calipers are absolute shite.

Regarding the master cylinder - I have an RCS 19 (not corsa corta) on my 1098R (M4 calipers) - this set up works well for me.

Next upgrade I would recommend would be Marchesini forged wheels from a Hyper 1100S.

Great bike - love the 1100S!

  3. Hi RickyX
I have been recommended rcs19 to M4 caliper. Nice to hear from someone who has actually tried the combination.
I have a person who will assist me with parts from Italy, and assembly of these.

I have asked him to be on the lookout for flawless Hyper 1100 Evo SP rims.
At the top of the wish list are anodized gold-colored Marchesini forged wheels.
These are probably the ones I'll end up with?
These Marchesini rims are made on order and there is a 2 month delivery

This Monster has so far cost me so much money that a pair of new Marchesini rims to it does not matter.
    This project has exploded

It would have been nice to see a picture of your Monster RickyX with these rims

  5. Thanks for the picture RickyX
    This looks great

  6. I've got Brembo M4 calipers on my Monster and the RCS19 is perfect plus, you have the choice of 18 or 20 ratio to fine-tune it.

Seriously good stopping power and control with just 2 fingers. :upyeah:

  7. Thanks for the picture and info Dukedesmo

I feel more confident that this combo is the solution to go for.
I think I choose the Corca Corta variant when I first order new parts.

I'm really looking forward to trying this

  8. ive fitted hpk discs on all my bikes too bud.

  9. Thanks for the tip
Googled Brembo HPK brake discs, and liked what I heard
Choose to mount these to the Monster :upyeah:

  11. I have the HPK discs and calipers on my 916 along with a 19mm, 20 ratio Brembo master cylinder (not RCS adjustable) and they work very well.

Compared to the M4 on the Monster, I would say they are more progressive and lack the initial (fierce) bite but ultimately have superb stopping power, I couldn't say if better as both far exceed my needs/abilities. Of course there is also the difference of the bike weight etc. to consider for the difference in feel?

With respect to the HPK discs, they are thicker than the OEM and so, presumably, handle heat better? Only criticism is that, last year I had to replace the alloy carriers as they had worn badly despite the actual disc having hardly any wear - it seems the, softer alloy, carrier is sacrificial rather than the anodised alloy buttons which (except for one) were fine.

This is a shame as the buttons would be much cheaper to replace.

  12. RickyX I just stumbled across this. Here’s my 1100S - wavy discs. Looks just like yours, maybe you are one of the 10 previous owners? 0BBFA025-8228-485C-801D-47CF16774AE6.jpeg

  13. Not quite, but similar-ish.
That one is gloss black, has original brake calipers, cast wheels and carbon silencers…

  14. Ah. Cant say I've found the brakes 'lacking' maybe I'm not riding hard enough. Would love some lightweight wheels though.
