Love my 899 but the front brakes are not what I was expecting. Wooden, lacking feel and initial bite. When not used for a few days lever needs pumping slightly to be firm when wheeling out of garage. Took it into Ducati Cov beginning of summer and they said all a bit like it probably due to abs unit. Anyway they bled system, new fluid and all was good for a few weeks. Now not so. What solutions have you? I bought bike new so know the history.
Weird because my brakes are great and have good feel. My first thought would have been that they need bleeding however it could well be the unit.
I just got some sbs brake pads to try I've also bled the brake and clutch to see if it improves things - my clutch needed bleeding so didnthe brakes while I was on. Hopefully it improves brake feel also
Bleed may work....check small stuff first. I stopped usimg brembo pads when i had previous 848, 1098 etc Overrated & stupid money. EBC hh are great i find. Really good bite at a reasonable price. Have them on the 1199. Perfect.
I don't own a panigale yet but having ridden the 959 a couple of times the main negative for me was also the brakes. As people flatstick I'd probably looking at the simple options first of different pads. Are the lines braided? If not I'd go to them next after the pads, I remember fitting some decent Hel lines to an old R1 track bike and it did make a noticeable difference in initial bite
The thread comes up a lot and I can only say that the feel was the same on my Daytona 675r with ABS, i.e. Not great. That had the older Brembo Monoblocs. Weirdly I didn't struggle for power or with fade around Cadwell and the same on the Daytona but as u say it's that feel. Like for the first squeeze u are moving air. Which u aren't, I've had mine checked and bled and they are fine. I'm going to try SBS pads as I'm hearing such good things about them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheers Lads. Will defo moan when it goes in for service as bike still in warranty, but think pads may help.
Yes. I mentioned this elsewhere, but take it down to setting 1 (or off) and see if it feels the same. I thought mine were bad, then realized the ABS was kicking in and making it worse, but when it is only slightly intervening it is easy to not realize that is what is happening.
I've had mine in ABS 1 pretty much from day one. I hate the combined braking as it stands the bike up going into corners. Didn't improve the feel from the lever though noticeabley
Guys it's not combined braking! The difference between the settings is that setting 1 allows rear lock where as option 2 doesn't, it doesn't apply brake to the rear etc. Ive also ridden both the 899/959 back to back as my mate has a 959, with his abs on setting 1 and mine on setting 2 there is no difference to brake 'feel' at the lever Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is definitely a feel difference if the ABS is working.... there simply has to be because you're not changing your input and the brake force is getting less.
Yes, but if in mode 1 u are using it, you are likely to crash without it. Honestly I'm really not sure how hard you guys ride on the road in non emergency situations but if you are regularly getting the ABS to intervene then umm... fair play? Even on track the front is starting to lock, so u are right on the edge... these systems aren't there to make the bikes uncrashable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This isn't Willy waving. When I first used the 959 on track on its standard Sport ABS setting (2?), it was running on in corners (like taking 20m more to slow) without obvious abs interference. As soon as I backed it down to 1 it felt a lot better. I am only offering that as a trial to the OP to do a test to see if it feels any better, as a simple test to see if the lack of feel/power is too high an abs setting. (I did it on a damp track in standard sport setting - hero mode not engaged )
I hated the engine brake control, just thought it gave the brakes a harder job, the OP should try turning that off to stop it 'pushing on' Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sure mines running abs 1 in race mode and haven't noticed any difference to sport which is running abs 2...........I think. Reduced ebc on both today but not tried it yet.
On the road though I find 1 is annoying, and have it on 2. But I came from a 600 GSXR so I'm not used to a lot of engine braking.
