Anyone had any dealings with these guys? I'm hoping to put a deposit on a Multi 1200S T they have for sale. The bike it's self is at 5,900 miles, so is due the first big service, the guy I spoke to on the phone sounded rather young. And was trying to give it all that when I was inquiring about the bike. Saying how it's prestine, not a scuff etc etc. Typical sales men balls. But what intrigued me was, he knew that the bike is due it's first big service and it would be included in the price. Which is a Brucie bonus for me (watching the pennies). But if they are not Ducati certified, I won't get a nice stamp in the books will I? And what guarantee do I have that they will do all the relevant servicing? Thanks
Hold them to it, if you get it. I bought a used VFR750 from them a few years ago, having just got back to biking, and I asked the salesman if any service was due (I didn't know their services schedules at the time). He said it was all up to date, and there was nothing big for the next service, so I bought it. About a week later I found out that the next service was 16k - the bike was on nearly 15k when I bought it. When it came to the service, it turned out to be a major valve check one. I ended up complaining to the boss, Colin, who said they'd sacked the salesman a short while ago and he gave me 50% off the service (which I was miffed about at the time but now I reckon was fair enough). They also helped me out in an emergency (for a reasonable cost) when I changed the front brake pads (the day before a track-day/touring holiday) and managed to shear the heads off two of the four stretch bolts that hold the caliper on (I had no concept of stretch bolts at the time). I was in there (Gloucester branch) last week and saw the bike in question, I think (a red one, with an MRA screen, yes?). I wasn't looking too hard but it seemed nice and tidy. BTW, the first big service is at 15k on a Multi. The 7.5k is a minor. The nearest Ducati main dealer is Brislington, Bristol - but they're also a Harley dealer so I take mine to JHP Ducati in Coventry (the next nearest).
I always take my stuff to either Moto Rapido, Louigi Moto (only for big jobs that need doing) or rarely any where else. I'm glad you saw the bike, and have at least a decent comment haha. I'm just sceptical as I too thought the first big service was around that mile mark. He mentioned the valves and what have you, think he was just waffling on to sell sell sell. Do you get a stamp for the minor services? I would prefer to do a small service (oil and filters) on my own.
What year there is also time element as you know so at 6k miles it could still be due big service but as per new rules it would only include what needs to be done even if big. So no for overhaul, valves checked and possibly done, new belt, oil. I would say it might need the small service plus belts like my 996 now. It has done 4.5k miles in 2y. No way is there a need to do fork oil, unlikely any valves but then 996....
Hmmmm, that's a very good point! I will ring Moto Rapido tomorrow and ask for their opinion. Good guys there.
Reading the blurb on Ducati Glasgow's website (because they seem to have it fairly well documented), belts are 5years or 15k, valves are mileage only, fluids every 3 years. On that basis you'd only need a basic service (i.e. oil change and kick the tyres), plus check the coolant recall has been done.
Spoke to them again. They will do the full service. Including new belts... It's included in the price. So should I just let them at it? They will stamp the books.
The Gloucester branch is my nearest Honda dealer, I've owned 4 blades over the years & never managed to have a deal with them. Mac, I took my bike to Riders of Cardiff for it's service, a little further than Bristol for me (Forest of Dean) but a more interesting journey there. Been to Coventry since but JHP were a pain to find, which side of Gloucester are you?
I'm SW Glos. Thanks, but I don't like the Riders chain and I'm from Coventry so didn't have any problems finding it
