Breakdown Cover

  1. Looking at separate cover for my SF1098S - Any suggestions or recommendations, there doesn’t seem to be any company that specialises in bikes, the same guy comes out who also repairs cars, I heard that they just answer the call and then say ‘ sorry, not got a clue on bikes’ and from car experience, any vehicle that needs to be removed from the road is then farmed out to a local company.

Thought that separate cover with all the bells and whistles might be better than through your insurance.

  2. National breakdown/green flag, I use them as they cover any trailer unlike the AA who have a stupidly small trailer length

  3. I’m in RAC, which covers me for any car I’m in, even as passenger, and my bike. I’ve used them a few times for punctures on the bike as well as a couple of times in cars.
I joined while broken down in a lay-by at six in the morning one January years ago. There are cheaper ways to join.

  4. National breakdown also cover me and the missus for anything we are driving

  5. I've used the breakdown/recovery service included with my Bemoto policy a few (or more!) times, no complaints except maybe the wait time.

  6. I use Startrescue but have never had to call them out as yet

  7. Yeah, I was covered by them but on the occasion I called them (rear puncture on a 1098S), their response time was greater than 2 hours and in the end, a passing motorcyclist stopped and plugged the puncture from a kit he had with him. These days, I've got personal cover under a Green Flag policy for the wife and I driving any of the bikes and cars in the family. Used them twice over the last 12 months, once on the Multistrada and once on our SMax and on both occasions they were superb.

  8. Just had my renewal through for green flag and it emphasizes no size limit on trailer or caravan that one is towing...

  9. I had RAC through my insurer GoSkippy. When I phoned the RAC to confirm I was covered before a journey they had no clue about me being a member and basically I wasn't covered according to them! I got an RAC policy number from GoSkippy and the RAC person on the phone said "the computer says no!". Won't be buying through an insurer again.

  10. If you paid any part of the premium by credit card you can claim it all back as they have not supplied the goods and services you paid for. Just leave it until a few days before your policy expires though as they'll almost certainly cancel your cover.

  11. Unfortunately I paid by bank debit card. My insurance is up for renewal, needless to say I haven't gone with them again.

  12. Checkout a bank scheme called "Chargeback".
It's not quite the same as with a credit card but it got me £5K back some years ago from a company that had gone into liquidation.
    Nothing ventured nothing gained.

  13. I might well do that, the insurance was iirc around £1k so worth doing.

  14. Same applies re credit card just push your bank hard

  15. There is a legal obligation with credit cards, the chargeback scheme is a voluntary process which most banks have signed up to but it has conditions that have to be met by the claimant including time stipulations but ultimately there is no legal obligation.
