Morning all, Firstly, has anyone here successfully replicated the original gold appearance? Secondly, and perhaps controversially, how do we feel about quality thread inserts (ie: Time Sert) as possible repair to the bleed screw threads? Grateful for your wisdom / experience etc. Thanks.
Can’t help you with the colour but I had a crack down the length of bleed screw thread which would have been removed if drilled out and a thread insert used. My preferred machinist declined to do the job on safety grounds. I have known the company for many years and IMO, they are the best in the south of England so I have no reason to doubt their judgement call. Andy
Not a good idea on a pressurised braking system as they're known to back out. A better option, if possible, is to drill out the hole, retap the thread and fit an oversize bleed screw. Subject to clearance etc. You'd need a pillar drill.
^ beat me to it, but providing there is enough "meat" then above is the only safe solution although emphasis then has to be based on accurately "checking" or reproducing the taper seat for bleed nipple at the bottom of the "well" as can wander slightly depending on set-up used for drilling/tapping new thread.
