Am looking to brighten up my lights but don't really want to go down the route of an HID kit - anyone got any recommendations for better brighter, road legal bulbs that won't melt the plastic headlamp?
Try the Osram Night Breaker H11 Bulbs from Powerbulbs.com

OSRAM Night Breaker Plus H11

+1 .....I know of a couple of guys that have gone with the Osram Night Breakers and rate them....not cheap though ;-) Cross reference: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/any-rec...tronger-fo-th-mts-1200s-1180/?highlight=osram
One of the guys at the last Popham meet had gon HID main and dip....think it was 'Coman' View Profile: Coman - The Ducati Forum and main beam HID; 'steviegasgas' http://ducatiforum.co.uk/members/steviegasgas.htm This will be useful also ;-) Multistrada 1200 - Headlight, dual dip / high beam modification
I fitted HID dip beam. 35watt from HID50.com. Very helpful chap. Considered HID main, but HIDs are crap for illuminating quickly, I.e. momentary flash of main beam.
I fitted HID's on dipped beam a while ago now, not fitted to main as they are not instant, takes a split second to ignite, and a few seconds to reach full power, as stated on previous thread. but to be honest i dont need them on main, as dip is more than enough in all situations. Massive improvement over standard !! There a plug and play item, but it is a bit ackward trying to squeeze the balasts in for a neat fit, (Even the newer slim ones) as you need two kits for both dipped bulbs Got kits of e-bay and been very reliable Ducati Multistrada Canbus pro 1200S Xenon Hid Headlamp Conversion | eBay
HID are good if the std ligts are poor, as with my St1050, but the Multi lights are not bad at all so would go down osram route, they are good.
OK thanks people. I was considering these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006BT7XJA/?tag=ducatiforum-21 or these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0044DAPGI/?tag=ducatiforum-21 Wasn't sure on the quality of the Ring ones but I think PIAA have a good reputation?
Certainly PIAA are very well known for their light kit and spotlights.....I guess the bulbs would be quality also. Not sure about Ring either....a budget brand? Consider also: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046B0I2O/?tag=ducatiforum-21 (I know Bikergas fitted these about 12 months ago;-)
What Veetwin said 4 x 12V / 55w H11 Halogen bulbs ....which makes the upgrade to the high performance bulbs a pretty expensive exercise! Might be worth replacing just the dip beam bulbs and installing JohnW's dual headlight loom (on main beam dip beams stay on as well;-) That might be good enough. The osram nightbreaker plus bulbs are great but they only last bout 12 months, but are a huge improvment on the standard bulbs, just replaced mine 4 another set, i also have the low high beam mod which works a treat.
+1 for the Nightbreakers. High beam is still not great, but that is down to the beam pattern imho? What is the hi/lo mod? Can an electrical numpty like me do it?
Yes....plug and play wiring loom that JohnW makes.....bit fiddly to do but straight forward, just a little care required as with all things electrical e.g. making sure connections firm and well insulated. Details here: Motorcycle Info Pages - MTS1200 Electrical Stuff > Dual Headlight Conversion Doesn't look like John's joined the forum....email me and I'll put you in touch:
Andy - to perform this mod is it essential to disconnect the battery? I'm worried I'll mess the alarm up....
