Ok so the dreaded who's good and who's crap thread might start again if so I apologise now. I have been with BT now and have never been bothered to switch providers for my phone or broadband until now , I already have SKY telly and think that my service with BT recently with a faulty router has left a bad taste in my mouth regarding their customer services. So how well do the other providers fair up in terms of good relationships with their subscribers? Quality is not so much of an issue as BT will not dig up our block paved road to lay fibre cables so our speed is not brilliant but ok for what I need it for. Any suggestions p-lease?
Ive been with O2, Sky, Virgin and BT. I hate BT but their BB is better plus you get free motogp. I think they are all much of a muchness.
I'm with BT have been for a few years Turned up on time the live chat is a good way of help if that doesn't work they have called up to talk through a problem Can't really say a bad word against them though I havnt tried any other provider to compare
I have been with BT since dial up days, they are not perfect but I have never had a reason big enough to change to another provider who is probably no better anyway. I am undecided on BT Infinity with their "up to" speeds. They are also keen to give discounts to new customers whilst offering little to existing customers, which I do find irritating.
I get fairly good speeds on Infinity John. 3 times faster than what I got with o2 and for less money.
internet sucks, at home if the kids are on mind craft then i don't even bother, cant watch any video in between about 9am-10pm. bollox.
I regret not switching my broadband supplier to BT at the start of the Moto GP season as I have missed on some excellent coverage. I am hoping that the same deals will apply at the start of the season next year, and that by switching to BT I will be able to watch all the racing. Watching the MotoGP race on Itv4 on Monday night has been frustrating because of the ads. That will teach me to be a cheapskate.
Big fan of plusnet here, great customer service, perhaps not the best deal overall but generally uber reliable and stable. TalkTalk are supposedly doing the best deals/packages if you're looking for an all singing all dancing alternative to sky, who let's face it, are taking the piss. Can't comment on customer service tho ....
As I understand it, your proximity to the nearest exchange is a big factor in download speeds. I'm not too far away from mine and get 8Mb/sec with TalkTalk. Be interesting to hear from others what sort of speeds they are getting.
I have infinity the speed is definitely better for me Also call them up saying how unfair it is that you have been with them for years and they should be encouraging you to stay with them then see if they have a better offer
Johnv, the cross from fibre to copper takes place at the cabinet ( green roadside box) and the speed you can get with infinity will depend on how far your house is from that cabinet. My local exchange has recently had fibre provided but as I am about 2 miles from the cab there is no point in me having a change as the service degrades after about a mile ( resistance within the copper cable) and as an Openreach employee its very frustrating that I can't experience our latest offerings. I only just get 2mg over the standard cable, just about good enough, but can be frustrating at times, but then I choose to live out of town.
BB speed in my area is pretty poor so I have a basic package. I was with BT but had shocking experiences with customer service. At my previous address BT were unable to supply a BB connection having signed me up for a 12 month contract because there was a 200 yard section of cable serving my house which was riddled with faults and patched repairs and they refused to replace it on grounds of cost. Despite a verbal pledge from someone in India to release me from my contract with all BB changes refunded or cancelled, when it came to it they reneged and tried to pursue me for months of BB line rental for a service they had never managed to supply and a substantial penalty charge for early termination, even ringing me up to threaten me with debt collectors and warning me that my credit rating would be adversely effected, that I couldn't win and I may as well give up and pay up. It was like dealing with a loan shark. It took months to resolve and required the intervention of trading standards and the ombudsman to make them keep their word and rescind all charges. Only after a formal threat of legal action did I even get to speak to someone in the UK. They are by a country mile the worst company I have ever dealt with and I would never under any circumstances touch BT again. I didn't realise Openreach were a different company and their engineers and area manager did their level best to help. But it seems they are constantly undermined by a target culture higher up the chain of command and morale was pretty low. I'm with the Post Office now. They're a couple of pounds dearer a month on start-up but customer service is vastly better and their bills are intelligible so I know what I'm actually paying for.
I moved my telephone (from BT)and my Broadband (from TalkTalk) and bundled it with an upgraded Sky subscription (I went from a very cheap, basic Sky package to HD/Sky +). Altogether, I haven't regretted the decision. The only gotcha for me is the increased cost of home telephone calls but as I almost never use my landline any more, it's no big deal. The last price hike by Sky needed a careful look-see, but I was able to mitigate it by cancelling 1571 voicemail, which I never used anyway. I pay a little bit more per month than I did before going all the way over to the evil empire (Sky) but for the extra I pay, I receive up-to-40Gb broadband (from 2Gb), I have HD and Sky + with a 2TB disk (from a basic LowDef package and no Sky +). It's all good.
