We are off over on the Thursday night sailing from 'Ull'. Never been to Assen before so looking forward to it. Just hoping that it doesn't rain all weekend :frown: Question...is it best to take your own ratchet straps for securing the bike on the ferry?
Never needed them on any ferry Ive used. Some ferry co's strap your bike down others want you to do it so they're not liable. If they do it check they don't ratchet them down too tight. Theres normally cushions supplied to prevent scuffing or use your gloves.
Take something soft to cover bodywork as my experience is they don't supply them, but they do supply straps. That's why I use the tunnel these days, quicker and easier
I have been to Assen a few times, fantastic town and well worth it for the GP weekend. Have also done it for the WSBK weekend as well, not a good a turn out, campsite empty, stands pretty empty as well, but again a great weekend. Not sure what it would be like for a British event held in Holland? But go for the town, great bars and the people are really great. Have a great weekend
Groningen, 20km down Mway, mini Amsterdam with all the usual Dutch attractions. Café Knarie is best pub in the world. Roll your own and have a beer with good music and nice chicks behind bar and drifting in and out. 2 coffee shops just up the road. Red light 5mins walk round corner. If you want to stay the night Hotel Martini just across the road.
That's where we are staying.... New Hampshire Hotel, Groningen. Assen was pretty much booked up so looked abit further a field. Thanks for info
Had email from BSB saying they have a chance for poelpe who advance book to ride the circuit for a few laps after the Sat qualifying, may be worth checking their website if you've booked
O'ceallaigh Irish Pub - Crew Here's another good pub we found in Groningen. Live Irish music Fri or Sat nights, good craic. Check the square out too, quite often events there.
Groningen has a direct train to Assen, takes 15 mins. Usually a shuttle bus for race meetings, though I don't know if it will run for BSB. Depending on budget, the NH Hotel is nice, next to the hospital and a short walk from town etc. Hotel NH Groningen - 4 star hotel in Groningen | NH Hoteles. As used by the BBC and Ducati for the MotoGP. The town square hosts several bars, this one, , http://www.driegezustersgroningen.nl/welkom-bij-de-drie-gezusters-groningen has 8 different themed mini bars and is very popular. It also offers a Budget Hotel, though I don't know what it is like. Plenty of good eateries, and benefits from two red light areas, both of which are walking distance of the town centre, if that's your thing. Aways had a good time there, both for business and pleasure.
Thank you all for your input and advice. I have printed some of the info off. Looking forward to it and hoping the weathers not going to be too bad. Will post some photo's up on my return.
Remember, if its bigger than you, has hands like shovels and an Adams bigger than a geordie brickie, you may get more than you bargained for...
