I know there are always questions of 'what tyres' etc so here's my 2p worth. Had them fitted coz they were cheap (£190 fitted), have decent reviews to road and track use and should outlast by miles the SCs I normally fit. Have just done 3 trackdays on the, brand new, and mostly very impressed. To get a 32 front and rear hot, I had to start cold 30 front, 27 rear and they seemed to work really well whether 20deg or 12deg trackside. First thing I noticed is the flat profile makes turn in quite hard, I had to drop the front a ring to compensate, but gives great grip and feedback. And you can really hit the brakes; end Park I was able to brake after the 2 marker, back squirming where it was unloading, and easy make the corner lap after lap. Controlled and predictable. The rear also felt very planted, with lots of grip and other than a big slide at Anglesey when I was going much harder (too hard for the tyres but I got carried away chasing the fast fast guys in my last session) they were also very predictable and easy to use. The one worry was profile. I am off the rear, which is ok and never been a problem before and was the same with the SCs, but the front is not tall enough and I am right off the edge there too. On the SCs I'd have had a mm or 2 strip of unused rubber. But...the angle I was carrying in the hairpin shot is the same as I was carrying flat in 4th thru Church at Anglesey so hardly shabby Wear wise, they have done well. The sides on the rear are showing signs of wear but nothing too bad, and I should now easy get the summer done on them. Here's a couple of pics I've taken to show how they wear. All in all, recommended by me so far unless you are front end fast group, or mid pack with lots of lean angle, and seem great value.
I really rate them. Used on my 1098 and they worked great and wore well. The Pro is better and although now replaced, they offer great VFM.
I really like these too, swapped out the pirelli that came with my 848 for the 016s as I just couldn't get on with them. Been really happy with the decision since. They are just about to be replaced with 016 pros so good to hear they are an improvement!
I had them on my gsxr1000 and on my R1 to start with. I then tried Maxxis on the R1 and found them to be be just as good for road riding. And at half the price.
Not now they are not! And my local guy who stocked them from dot doesnt do them anymore, because their rep still isnt great and they cost as much as Dunlops.
So they've finally moved the prices up have they? Sounds like the Jap motor industry tactic to gain market entry and share on cheap prices before they crank them up to European prices. I've not had to replace my tyres for a couple of years now because I've changed bikes instead, so I've not seen this price hike. But I'm gonna need a new back (at least) in the next couple of months. They were good tyres though. Very sticky and good road life.
