Just snapped a lug on the LH side pod to my old Arai helmet whilst trying to take out my dark visor to see if it would fit my new helmet. :frown: Anyone know where I could get new side pods for an Astro R John Reynolds?
you should be able to. I did the same a few months ago on my Astro Race R Saltire. Think they were about £30 a pair for new ones. try ebay
I broke one of mine a month ago. Ebay had them, but I needed to borrow a pod to keep using the helmet, so the local shop ordered them. Just been told they've arrived. My lid is about 5 years old.
I got replacement side pods from thevisorshop.com , they have Reynolds ones listed at the mo . Or you can try a couple of bolts like the ebay repair kit ........Arai Helmet Side Pod Steel Repair Kit+Free Visor Decals | eBay
I have a spare Reynolds rep, but it is spare because it was from sliding down the track in it at Castle Combe during a race. Not sure if the side pod is useable, especially as I went down on the left, but will check and let you know.
That's very interesting. Thank you. If you had one and you were done with it I'd be very grateful. Thanks. It would only be so I could keep the lid as a spare, seeing as I received my new one yesterday. Thanks again.
Hope you get a quick fix El T. Sadly I cant really help but suggest contacting Lids Direct or Helmet City
Out of interest...... and possibly related to broken side pods. I spoke to an Arai rep at the bike show, and mentioned that I had replaced quite a few side pods over the years and that I considered it a weakness with an otherwise top quality product. He said that brittleness of the parts only comes from cleaning agents that contain anything petro-chemical based. I told him that I used Auto Glym visor cleaner, and he said that Arai wouldn't recommend that as it has a trace of something petrol related. The only thing they recommend is very mild soap, warm water and a soft cloth.
Just spoken to Helmet City and they can get them but seeing as there's a few Reynolds reps I'll need to find out which one and send them a pic. So if worst comes to the worst I can contact them again.
Yes they do but I only ever give my helmet (phnarr phnarr) a wipe with a damp cloth. I've never used anything chemical based, ever.
Just to add insult to injury the visor from your Astro wont fit the RX7-GP. The Astro uses the L-Type visor and the RX7-GP uses the I-Type visor.
Yeah I thought that when I had the two of them out. So I didn't try and fit the dark visor to my new helmet.
Have to say The ex had a side pod scratched when we visited helmet city it was black with the green monster logo if I remember. They had one there in the shop to replace it. Helmet City BIG THUMBS UP
i agree. And I thanked them for the excellent service on my new helmet. Ordered online on Sunday evening, delivered Tuesday morning
