hi has anyone noticed a smell, like burning oil smell when you get high up the revs ? talking 10k plus, doesn't seem to be using oil, but that's what it smells like ,
It's not lube flicking off the chain and sitting on top of the exhausts is it? Just found a little pile of lube on mine, baked on hard That'll take some shifting over the winter
Had a couple of oil leaks on mine too. Both warranty jobs. One was the rocker cover gasket, other was a breather pipe not being up to the job. Heavy acceleration caused a small weep by the water pump. Pipe was upgraded and seems to have sorted it.
Yeah, that was kinda a long shot with the chain lube. Know the smell you mean though, smelt it round mine before. Not had a chance to give the bike any beans since it's been sorted but heading to Silverstone on Monday so guess I'll find out then.....
Do you sit revving it to 10k in the garage if so I'm not surprised you smell something? If your moving in any gear at 10k and smell something you must have a great sense of smell. If none of above, hold it at 12k and the problem will eventually go away.
your more than welcome niven to come and play with us anytime, yeh it was yesterday at passing 10k revs still after more power you could smell it, suppose its being relaxed on the bike and not holding on like a terrified monkey also had a look at the temp gauge which was showing 73 deg, pm us anytime you fancy a look out we do Scotland to the lakes to Helmsley so plenty of meeting places , and sissy you should no better you were 20 meters behind me lol,
Jimmy, Do you actually smell it when riding or when you stop ? I'm meaning like at 10K you will be doing a fair bit of speed (regardless of gear) so wouldn't have thought it possible to smell anything unless it's maybe coming of the front head and wind is blowing it up the steering stem and bars, anywhere else I would have thought the smell would be behind you. 73deg doesn't seem to be hot, not sure about the Pani but the BMW runs about 80-85deg. As for the ride out, thanks for the offer but I don't really do much on the road, more than happy to do a track with you though Regards Davy
yeh mate may take you up on the track days but just packed it in last year after 15 years on them ,so I know if I start again its gonna be expensive, as for the smell it was when riding , its definatley there , my mates sissy mac also smells , it may be from the front then, as for temp it was pretty cold yesterday so engines running a little cooler, it usually runs 77-79 cel, yep mate agree 10k plus is pulling on but when you've done the tracks for a lot of years it puts your speed etc into perspective, and I was only in fith gear lol, and this is a serious post not a wind up , the bikes booked in for a first year service on wed ,but they will do nowt ,
Was laughing at the quote meaning it gets revved in garage not at u . like ours don't get rode like most . Think it was 10 meters lol.
