1199 Burnt Fairing!

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by jamie_niall, Mar 13, 2016.

  1. Just had my second-hand 1199 delivered yesterday (private sale). Only 593 miles on it (and worried it hasn't been run in properly as the 6k orange line is still on the dash).

Anyway, noticed that the lower RHS fairing has burnt a bit near the rear spring attachment on the exhaust pipe (before it meets the end can). Anyone else had this? Certainly didn't have it on my 899 with 1010 miles on it.

Also, rode for 5 mins yesterday and found it really lumpy/stally in 3rd gear at 4-5000rpm. Perhaps it wasn't properly warm?

    Thoughts appreciated, as ever.

  2. I wouldn't personally worry too much about it not being run in properly. My issue is when people don't allow the oil to come up before thrashing them.

Has it had it's first service?

    Pictures of the bodywork damage??

  3. I think the actual cut off point for the running in warning is 625 miles (1000km). It cannot be switched off until the bike has passed that mileage even by a dealer.

  4. Was running by 1299 in yesterday. I expected the orange to dissapear at 500 as thats what the dealer told me. I was quite disappointed when it didn't. Carried on riding and suddenly notice the orange had gone ... it was around 600 miles . As the post says perhaps its 625 as thats 1000km.

  5. hiya I'm only at 150 miles at mo running in.ive got akras on mine and remapped by dealer to suit. my bike has a small powerband at low revs where it just wants to go does yours. dealer says there is nothing wrong with the bike but going through traffic its a bit of a pain due to it kangorooing sometimes. was told when its run in will be ok. how is yours so far. cheers

  6. Just sounds like a twin to me.

  7. As above, the twins work better if you run the revs a bit higher where they are smoother if you can. You get used to feathering the throttle and so on.

  8. I assume it's definitely a genuine Ducati lower fairing on there? I'd obviously be amazed if it wasn't, but I've not heard of them burning before.

Do you have the standard cans on the bike? I remember it being a little rough round the edges with the standard cans and map which was helped out by the Termi's and up-map, but I think coming from a 899 to 1199 it's going to take a bit of getting used to, the 1199 really does like to be worked hard and isn't happy at lower RPM's.

  9. cheers for the response yea I get the feathering in ,rode the rsv1000 twins a while ago and yea I know the extra 300cc on the pani might make a difference.just need to run it so I don't need to be so mindful of the 6000 rpm limit I suppose. cheers guys
