I bought a used stand advertised on here as fitting an 848. I thought I'd buy an adapter for a 749/999 and still save myself £100 or so on the deal. The stand is perfect and ideal for a build I have planned, but you need an adapter for each bike it's going on and I wanted some wheels so i can move it around easily. No problem, both are available on the Bursig site, so I ordered them. However, I got an email today stating that they can only supply spares to people who have the original invoice, which as a 'second owner' I didn't have. Fortunately, I was able to contact Scott and get his details and the approximate purchase date, which they were able to use to find the purchase. Without the original purchase details, I doubt that I would have been able to get spares for the stand, making it of limited use. Something to think about when you're considering buying one of these.
Who did you buy the bursting off? Baloo420, who I got my abba stand off is selling one and it has wheels, I've seen it.
Scott848 from memory. I'm getting noises from Germany that the 999 adapter requires 'more bracing' than the 848. I'm getting to the point where I love the idea, but not loving the requirement to keep buying bits for my 3 bikes... I understand that part of the adapter sits in the frame and replaces the bolt at the end of the engine mounting. I'm 'happy' to buy a few of these (at 30euros plus postage...) in order to use the stand, but more stuff? It's getting silly.
The lower mount fits into the swingarm bolt - that's built to take a lot of weight - and the upper mount replaces the engine mount nut. To me, the stress is spread throughout the structure.
the structure may be strong but its still pivoting the whole weight of the bike through two small sections of the whole bike...........concentrating the stress as you put it, through those two small areas....plus the weight is at 90 degrees to gravity compared to say a front yoke stand where the weight is sitting on top of a similar small area but gravity is straight down..
Andy, are you familiar with centre stands? Similar thing. I knew that as soon as I wrote an opinion you'd come up with an opposing view. I like you mate, but it got old a long time ago.
Jerry i dont care what stand you buy, i even dont care if you buy half a stand and then complain about the cost of having to buy the parts to get it to fit your bike, and yes i like you too. I understand centre stands and i am also technical enough to see that it cant be a good thing hanging the full weight of the bike on just thos two short pins that mount on to one side of the bike only. At least an abba stand suppports both sides of the bike distributing the weight and is a strong enough fix to confidently pull the bike about a bit the same as the front yoke stand. you do whatever you want to.........
So you are quite happy that all of the rear weight and more goes through a single sided swingarm then? Having the weight of a bike supported by only two areas does not make it safe or dangerous, even Ducatis rear stand only supports it on one pin? The most important bit is how and where the forces are distributed .
have you compared the size and length of the pin that goes through the axle and the size of the axle to those pins that sit within the frame and the shallow depth that they sit within the frame................
You're right Andy, but the pins sit so tight within the sockets that there's no opportunity for bending or damage. They may as well be solid
But that means they are holding the bike up by gripping on the wall of the frame tubing...........your nicely powder coated or painted frame tubing.....well not for very long!
