Buying a 1098... Help

  1. Right, I'm looking for a normal 1098.... A set of termis would be a nice touch though.

i just need a few pointers as to what's the common probs or things to keep a eye out for when buying one?

    cheers

  2. Check when the belts were replaced, other than this IMHO it's just the usual stuff - is the bike looked after, does it have service history/receipts etc. Ducatis tend to be really looked after by their owners so finding a good one shouldn't be difficult :)

  3. Where the rear sets bolt onto the frame, have a good look both sides at the frame paint on the mountings.... If it's cracked/chipped there's a good chance it's been down the road as the lugs bend flakeing the paint as they're made if cheese. There is a good chance it should have had a battery and rectifier recall at some point to so worth asking, if it's due a belt change don't panic and just knock em down £200. People get tied up with the belts but the valve shims on the big service cost me more than belts ever did (think I got the Friday afternoon knock off work when done with regards to shims). Clocks and headlight will mist in certain conditions which is normal and have to put up with, other than that.... Enjoy!

  4. As you said, aim to buy a bike with the aftermarket cans fitted as they are expensive even second hand. I have Zards on mine and think they suit the bike well. Whats your budget? I think £7k should get a decent 1098.
