Evening all. I've just posted on the newbies section so apologies for repeating myself, but this seemed to be the place to be. I'm in the process (I hope, but thats another story) of buying a 2010 Multistrada S Touring. Deposit paid, just a bit of a problem to sort out before I can have it (thats another story too). Anyway, what I'd be very grateful to find out is what upgrades etc should have been done to the bike by the Ducati dealer? I know about the leaking panniers but I'm not clear on what should have been done. Should I be worried about the rear brake?? And what else should I worry about, there seems to be, err, quite a list! Any advice would be appreciated.
Hello! Congratulations for getting you a superb bike If the service booklet and such is stamped by a Ducati dealer, I think you should be safe that all the recalls is done. The latest one is for changing the engine coolant. Easyest way to check that is to look at the coolant reservoir under the right side of the handlebar. The liquid in there should be PINK, not blue as it was when it is was delivered from Bologna:smile: Regarding the panniers and the update on them. The modification consisted of two additional latches on each end and a new seal between the lidd an box itself. This is how your panniers should look like, with a latch in each end: And not like this:
Thanks for that. The panniers have the mod for sure, which gives me some confidence that the other bits and bobs have been done. Do dealers have any obligation to do the mods if the bike is out of warranty? It has a main dealer history. I went of in "sport" mode for a test ride on damp country lanes and very quickly worked out how to operate the computer thingy! It's a bloomin hand-full after the KTM, I can tell you!
Have you asked dealer if any of the three year warranty remains ? Theres lots of posts around what should be done, so I'd recommend you spend an afternoon taking notes. Also chk out Ducati.ms Heres my list, post some pics when u get it! Bugs Defo items: Latest ecu patches applied (latest version to fix fuelling and abs) New rear brake done (still wont b the best but u won't roll back on hills) Coolant change done (important) Optional: Front fork clunking noise pit patter washers done - ask and check if needed kill switch replaced front brake discs not warpped fork seals not leaking chain replaced (if over 10k) Dual front main beam mod done rear tail light rubber washer inserted to stop it bouncing too much check both hand/indicator guards for hairline breaks radiator - check if ever been replaced - good if yes check exhaust valve condition- they v rusty when not lubed and affect performance rear light - check to see if not foggy and all filaments work ( iam on no4 so far) Check to see if the centre stand rubber is there ! Check to see if rubber for panniers are both there check to see if rubbers for where top box sits (if u get one) is there ask if keyless system / steering lock ever failed and was replaced last one - check all screws around exhaust and belly pan area are there -usually one or two missing (at about 3quid each they add up!) If you have a full termi fitted make sure u get ecu, air filter, and all bits to take bike back to standard or vice versa (u may want to sell or put back later)
You could buy my white S touring with a full years waranty instead? They wont issue a warranty unless everything is done. Only done 5000 miles.
Hi Hookey welcome aboard, cracking bikes mine is a 2010 not had it long but been brilliant so far. i think they should do the coolant recall if out of warranty. Not sure the rear brake was a recall, more a fix they can do if you complain, but if you have fsh your dealer should sort both imo even though out of 2 year warranty. Ive had both fixes done, the brake one did make a difference. If you find the screen shite and most do i can recommend the screen spacers that a chap on here called aztec sells.
If you write down your vin (I think that's what it's called) number and give it to the dealer he can tell you what has been done by looking it up on the computer database! It's the number you find just above the joke) I mean yoke!
Right, I'd better get my head around trying to check some of this stuff. Kind of wish I hadn't asked! Only joking, really appreciate the replies. I think I might see if I can speak to the dealer where it's going to have the ABS sorted to see if they can look into what's been done.
Also check that there is no condensation in the instrument cluster and there is no service light on. Rear brake was at customer request only but any previous owner with an ounce of braincell would have had that done. Also check its not red as they recalled these to put white stickers on, called them Pikes peak as they couldn't sell 'em  Enjoy the bike. I have but am now about to sell as I fancy something different..
It's an option if it goes pear shaped I guess, thanks. I do regret not having a look on here before I commited as there's another red one for sale that sounds good too. It's nice to have a plan B. I was particularly looking for a black one as I like to make my life as difficult as possible!
Quick Pic to tempt you. Once you go white you will never........oh no....thats something else...
It is rather nice I must say. Have you taken off the centre stand? And is that the standard screen? I called the dealer selling the bike today, gave him the list of recalls/upgrades and asked him to ask the Ducati dealer where the bikes going to check whats been done. We'll see, i'm not holding my breath.
centre stand is on but not on this pic. \it was removed to do the the cut down mod has to stop it digging into your heel if you ride on the balls of your feet. (we forgot to mention that although to be fair it wasnt a recall-- more personal choice.) The screen is the MRA touring (black). I had the MRA shorty also but changed it due to head getting ripped from side to side over 85mph.
The one I've got a deposit on has a tinted touring screen. I didn't think I'd like the look of it, but it didn't look too bad to be honest. And, as you say I bet it's loads better for long distances. It has a termidodah can too, which is nice. So what do you fancy next?
I sat on the Explorer for first time today. Booked in for test on Sunday so see how it goes. Duc has been great. Ducati havent but thats just my experience with them. As always you can read too much into forum postings. The bike is a bit too powerful in the way that my pillion cant see when I am going to open the throttle to overtake so ends in helmet bump and neck lash. On the bright side I will have loads of farkles for sale on here including top box, carbon beak, screen etc!
If you like the triumph you may be able to get a good deal at triumph west yorkshire as they also own ducati leeds in the same building, so i guess a bike like yours would be high on their wanted list as a px.
