I’m looking at buying this more or less standard 916, 22,000km and complete service history (see pic). It is supposedly a 98 model year. Does the fairing and graphics correlate with a 98 model year? Thanks.
I believe that is the correct fairing/graphic for '98 MY Standard BP would have probably had a red plastic front mudguard, but it looks pretty standard
My '98 registered BIP has the earlier style graphics and apart from the front mudguard and braided brake hoses is pretty much identical. Pictures in my album if you want to compare.
Thanks for the replies. I have received another pic of the bike and noticed that the rear rim does not have the “Ducati Racing” engraving around the center hub. Was that removed on the later model year bi posto’s?
No "Ducati Racing" on the rear wheel on my 98 SPS, but it was on my '97 Bip, so thats probably about when it changed. Looks like a very clean & tidy bike. Indicators, Carbon heel plates and clutch cover are not original either, but no problem on anything but a concours level machine.
An original ‘99 748 for comparison, graphics & fairing would have been the same in ‘98 and across the 916/748 bikes. Mine has steel braided brake lines as standard too. No Ducati Racing logo on wheels.
I think 1998 was the year the fairings just had the "Ducati" decal and the engine capacity and model was just on a small decal on the tail. Also, they same year also had no tank decals
Thanks all for your valuable input. I will be looking at it today and will see if some of the decals are just added by the owner himself.
I suggest your decals are all 100% correct except for the "desmoquattro" added to the fairing and the Campione sticker on the back. One way to tell might be to see if they have been added on on top of the clearcoat
You can also see the date the fairings were made, it’ll be stamped on the inside. Just a few dzus to undo.
It,as I said before, depends on how original you want it.You could obviously get fairings refinished.Or get others and get those redone.
Thanks all again. Went 100km to see the bike just to get a cancellation on sms 2km from the sellers adress, because he had a brake in in his house during the night and had completely forgotten our appointment. Bummer! But hard to be mad at someone who have had a brake in. No mentioning, though, whether the bike “survived” the brake in. It is no longer for sale, so I fear it did not.
Well, the seller was returning from holiday abroad with his family the evening before we had an appointment and came home late to a house trashed by burglars and completely forgot our appointment in the midst of cleaning, calling the police, insurance, finding another place to stay for the night etc. Until otherwise proven, I believe the story
