Buying a Multistrada

  1. Hi everybody

After a lot of head scratching I am looking at buying my first Ducati, nearly went down the line of getting a Vfr1200. Always wanted a Duc and still hanker after a Streetfighter but I need a bike for everyday use normally between 300-500 miles a week with the occasional European jaunt thrown in. The reason for the thread is to ask if there any good deals to be had. My local dealer is offering 12k on the road for a new Multistrada, that's with no part ex but a 2.5k deposit then three years finance through them and works out at about £500 off list. I'm don't normally buy new so I'm not the best at this haggling thing with dealers, can I do better.

Cheers in advance for any help

  2. I have just ordered a MS T for next Saturday. I found a wide range of prices from different dealers. May depend on whereabouts in the country you are.

  3. Dealers will be trying to off load stock as a new Multistrada (update) is due next year (spy shots already floating around the net) so plenty of deals to be done I would imagine.

  4. I just got about 2K off at a main dealer. six months old, 1600 miles.

  5. Thanks for the replies

Have seen a couple of secondhand S models, one with less than a thousand miles on it, all around the price of a new standard one. The main thing that keeps pushing me to a new one is the full warranty bearing in mind the mileage I'll be doing.

I'm living in Hertfordshire so no dealers on the doorstep as such but am happy to travel if the price is right and the dealer is ok. Would rather pay a little more, not to much mind, and give my business to a decent shop.

  6. Just buy a new one.....you're loaded or is Audrey now holding the purse strings.

  7. No I hold the purse strings, hope she doesn't read this. I wish I was loaded and the thought of spending 12 grand on a new bike terrifies me. Are you chopping yours in for another then?

  8. Just buy it; it's the best purchase you'll ever make.

  9. I was thinking about trading it in for a new one but I can't make my mind up. They wanted 8K and mine to do the swap (S version). So that equates to depreciation of about 2.5k per year. I might just wait to see what the new one's like or maybe something else.

  10. Well , it all comes down to how much you want one! If you try it, you'll be hooked! ;-)

Putting the "head" back on though, personally, I would wait.... 2 reasons.... Firstly, if you wait, and a new model is announced, you will get an absolutely cracking deal. Secondly, they may have fixed some of the issued with the current model...e.g. The screen.

If I was buying one "now", I would wait for the 2013 model (assuming I could afford it). It will almost certainly be "improved".

  11. Had an afternoon ringing various dealers to see what's available. Quite a few haven't got any in stock or are waiting for a new delivery in November. The ones who have or can get one are all offering £12000 otr so at least it's consistent. St Neots Motorcycles can get one from another dealer and they seem decent people to deal with, will see if they can throw something else in the deal.

Plenty of S models available but out of my price bracket

Would normally be happy to wait until Jan to buy but have a trip to the South of France coming up and would love to do it on the Multistrada. Hopefully will have one in a couple of weeks.

  12. Casp, you wouldn't be visiting wingey would you? I'd lend you mine but you have a bit of history modifying bike whilst wheelieing!!! Is St Neots nearest to you, have you tried Hysides thy always seem good on price? Hope you've factored in the cost of a full termi system, you known you will want one!

  13. Went to Riders Bridgwater today, they have a spanking new Pikes Peak. Jeez that's a nice looking bit of kit.... I was just about to do something rash and then I saw the price......£17000. Christ...

  15. Yes, bloody lovely that.

  16. Took out a 2010 Multi for a test ride today and have at last experienced the joys of the standard screen, high or low didn't make much difference to the noise. Bike has the full Termi on and sounds great even with the baffle in. Dealer will change the Pirellis and put on some Michelin PR3's as prefer them, probably more in my head than in reality. The warranty has just expired last month and my only concern is I'm sure I saw the right indicator light faintly glowing. I've read this could possibly be an earthing problem, is it major issue or can it be ignored. Worst case scenario could it lead to having to replace the clocks. Is a shame as the bikes in good nick and obviously been looked after.
