Buying Parts From Eu - Delays

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Firebladeboy, Jun 27, 2023.

  1. Hi All,

So I ordered a new Clutch master cylinder from the EU (much cheaper) on eBay. I know I'll have to add VAT, Customs Duty and admin fee but my question is WTF is going on with the time taken?! My part made it to Netherlands and left Netherlands in 2 days but has now totally vanished and hasn't popped up in the UK for 11 days. I'm sure it's waiting in a queue at HM Customs for processing but have any of you any idea how long this will take, based on your experience?

    Thanks!
    K

  3. I bought something from Italy last week or so. Took 9 days. 2 days sat in customs. Arrived yesterday.

  4. I bought a part for my MV from an MV forum member in Bulgaria. It left Bulgaria the day he's posted it.. Bulgaria post use RM this side of the water
Fir 5 days RM had no record of the parcel
6th day it was shown in Transit
On the 9th day RM delivered it
The RM app even today shows it in Transit

  5. Yup. Mine too is RM this side of the water. So maybe it's just their crap tracking. It's been AWOL for 11 days now though!

  6. I'm about to come over at the end of August to visit some friends. I'm happy to bring some parts over and reship from within the UK?

I'm based in Amsterdam so I'll be taking the tunnel as usual. Ive got a fairly big car (V60) so space isn't an issue.

Well, you mentioned it first... so 2 posts going by your logic.

  9. Update: It arrived today, finally, so all good I suppose. For anyone in the same boat, it took 14 days from Romania. Decent price and parts from premiummotorcycleparts on ebay so worth wait and stress (maybe!).

  10. Their parts may be cheaper than UK suppliers, because their bikes arrive in containers to be broken up, and any frames or crankcases scrapped. Just sayin....
Otherwise there must be a lot of riders crashing or blowing up high end, nearly new motorcycles in Romania.

  11. I was wondering about that. What's the story? Where do these bikes come from and why are they being sent there to break for parts?

  12. Because the UK second hand parts industry is a paragon of virtue isn't it? I mean, only those horrible foreigners would sell stolen parts would they? Ever thought that it might have a bit to do with amongst other things Romania having a far lower average wage than the Uk for example, in the region of 25% of that of the UK....

  13.

It's very common for countries to become 'hubs' for vehicle parting across Europe. Take Poland for example, there is a huge (and legitimate) business buying totalled cars around Europe, fixing or parting and then selling at a much cheaper price because their workforce is cheaper. Significantly. My wife is Polish and has an uncle who ships cars from all over to Europe as part of his business.

Point being, it's super common and as work is not cheap in the UK and due to customs at the moment, prices are higher than they used to be.

You're a bit sharp today eh? It was an innocent enough question lol. Either way, all of the above is normal and very common over here so I wouldn't worry about trusting the seller. More worry about the shipping.
