Not feeling too well today but I had to make a quick emergency trip on the bike..........with a heavy tank bag well packed out; makes it a bit awkward for a shorta*se........stopped for fuel and filled the tank right up..... .........got to my destination and just as I put my foot down, it slipped on some grit in the gutter, so I misfooted it completely .....with the weight of the tank bag and full tank it just went over and I ended up stepping off.......laid right across the kerb onto the grass verge... .......couldn't lift it up because the left clip-on was resting on the grass verge and the bike was 6" lower in the road; so I couldn't get down or low enough the bike to lift it.........petrol p*ssing out.... Got some help to lift it up.......petrol poured off the engine......big puddle in road. Waited two minutes, then started it up.....cleared itself and then ran OK. Damage?.....well, I didn't feel like looking at it too hard until I got home..... OK.....Left clip-on pushed round about 3mm, but missed the tank......ally bar end not marked....Nothing bent (but I am wondering if the fork stanchion shroud was pushed round in the yokes instead of the clip-on moving) Small scrape on the end of the left footrest.....or was there? I seem to recall it was already there....hanger not bent. Left mirror knocked out of position. That's it.........apart from damage to my pride and record.....only about the third time I have dropped a bike since I have been riding legally (OK so I have crashed a couple of times, but dropping is a different matter).... And what maybe a litre of petrol lost, possibly two....can't tell really and it always looks worse. What a T*T. AL
Good you are in one piece with no broken limbs or digits (especially at your age - 88 isn't an age to go trying to pick up dropped bikes!)
I can't understand how it didn't get damaged.......Imagine a 6" high kerb; grass on the high side; road on the low side..... There it was, on it's side with the brake lever and the clip-on in the turf; mirror resting on the grass: front wheel down on the road surface: rear wheel kicked up off the road: carbon can raised up well clear of the kerb..... ......lucky the half fairing was fitted........the full fairing would surely have been laid onto the kerb. And can you believe it.....houses everywhere and not one person came out, so I had to knock on a door to enlist help!! I bet the f****rs were all laughing behind their net curtains... Still I'm glad nobody came to help with a fag in their mouth......
Nothing there Pete, it didn't even seem to turn the bars.....just laid down on the clip-on IE...straight end on (but as my clip-ons are back anyway, I guess that's why it moved) AL
Al, Thought when you set off tell us it was going to be a lot worse, glad it wasn't. Ride a bit faster people won't notice the damage. Cheers Gaz.
feel for you bud done similar myself about to pull of with other half on back lost balance stalled it and laid it down felt a right one especially as outside local bike pub lol.............
I have spotted a slight scuff from my boot in the lacquer of the pillion seat cover and the same on the tank form the tank bag, but they will polish out easily........besides, being a shorta*se I am always clipping the seat cover with my boot anyway.... Thanks for all the respects.... AL
Jeez, glad it's nothing serious, more important at the mo is that you're not hurt. The bike could be fixed were it damaged! Will be picking my bike up tomorrow so hope to pop down your way soon to see you both. Take care, Chris and Nicky
Glad you're ok Al. Pride is always hurt but better it that then you or something on your body.
I felt like I was back in 1984 when I dropped my 1000RX twice just doing a U turn...........bl**dy hell, that was heavy, but at least I was on the same level to pick it up............... ........and I was 29 years younger and well...... ............doesn't bear thinking about.
