Cafe Racer

  1. Hello! Can anyone help me with this one? I am shed building a cafe racer from a 2001 ST4S. I want to fit a 916 tank (which I already have) but the ST4 airbox won't fit, the standard 916 airbox won't fit either. Question is - Do I need an airbox? would K&N filters on the inlets work instead? (I saw a custom bike at Bike Shed in London last week with Filters over its inlet trumpets) I have heard the motor needs still air to fuel correctly so has to have a airbox?

  2. Can't help but I can welcome you Dave :)

  4. You can use the st lower part of the airbox and use a frame to retain the filter, or cut the top off the top of the st 'box.

  5. Thanks I thought of that, I could cut the top off the ST4 box and use the tank as a lid - thats how the 916 works too. Its the still air thing I am not sure about? the Foam filters on the inlets would be easier and I think would look nicer?

  6. Wouldn't bother me losing the airbox. Esp for a naked café look.

  7. Makes sense - cheers

  8. If you're not after ultimate performance then go with the easy option. As long as it fuels nice and rides good who cares if it's a few bhp down ;-)
