Camera Gimbal - Wg Lite

  1. I had a little play with my gimbal at Donnington (not as perverted as it sounds!) and thought I would share some info with the forum because I can't be the only person that has been looking into these. The one I eventually went for was the WG lite. The reason for this is that I couldn't see the need for a 2 or 3 axis gimbal on a motorbike when all you are trying to do is level the horizon. Also, the single axis WG Lite is a lot cheaper, coming in at under £70! Link to the product website: WG Lite

I have attached a short video from Donnington, and the thing I have noticed (other than me being slow and needing more time on my new toy!) is that in addition to leveling the horizon, the gimbal also seems to remove some of the shakiness and generally smooths out the footage.

  2. Nice video and riding. I've have the same WG Lite and used it at Jerez in March. Nice bit of kit, just watch for the battery case coming off. I was bit nervous of fitting the GoPro without its case, and surprised the mic didn't capture any wind blast.

  3. That is some great footage. Can you post a pic of the setup itself? I am smitten by the absolute lack of wind noise and the minimal amount of vibrations. Cannot tell if it's the bike that doesn't transmit them (I can't image a V2 not giving vibes), the gimbal absorbing them or the gopro having some kind of image stabilization (I believe it doesn't). Absolutely brilliant.

  4. I'm sure the wind noise is mostly because the camera is behind the screen (which seems to give a lot more protection that other bikes I have ridden). The gimbal isn't stabilized, but obviously any vibration that might try to move the camera from a level horizon will be eliminated by the gimbal action. Having said that, I will check some other footage I have without the gimbal, because I don't think the vibration was massive to start with.
I have mounted it all on a small platform cantilevered from the ignition bolts from an eBay seller: Ducati Panigale 899 1199 1299 959 Camera Mounting trackday race fits GoPro Hero | eBay image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

  5. To be fair, having now checked back to a video from Bedford without the gimbal, there was minimal vibration anyway. In my head the gimbal footage still seems smoother though, and I definitely prefer the gimbal footage....

  6. Lots of bolts to fix the thing to! And the clear visor works in its favor. I can see more "jelly" effect on the footage without the gimbal. So it must be doing some damping . Thanks
