Camper On £500

  1. after tentatively putting my vam up for sale, I decided to run it til it dies and soend the money on a new multi instead! So decision made, I gave myself a £500 max budget, bearing in mind its only worth about £800 to start with.

So this is what it started life as. Scruffy van which has seen lots of action, part ply boarded and home

  3. So over the last two weekends, and a bit in the evenings.

I've removed the bulk head first, (simple bolt in jobbie) as it was over £200 to have a window fitted.

Next was ply the roof and finish the insulation, which I used roof stuff as its cheap and I could wedge it into the holes in the inside of the van rails. Not an easy job plying the ceiling my own! But managed it.

Weighed up cheap cord carpet vs proper van wall and ceiling liner, and found a place on fleabay who did 10mx2m plus 6 tins of glue for £95.

Another ebay special saw me spend £50 plus another £40 on fuel to collect it for a mint set of corner cushions and bunk from a camper

Next I have started looking at flooring, and decided to use the halfords stuff I have in the garage. Its soft foam so should be perfect, and cuts easy. Having a couple of spare tiles, I thought I'd give it a crack...

For lights, I won't be adding power, just some simple LED strips, another ebay bargain at a fiver for 5m strip. Connected to a battery I just need to fit a switch and something to fix to on the oarimeter.

Ok, its a bit rough round the edges, you wouldnt pay someone to do this ;) but I'm mega happy so far.

Next weekend its build the seating bases and locate a small unit for cooking on, then decide how I am going to kit out the back. Still not sure wehether to partition off the back or leave open...means I would need to fit a door or opening for the bike to come into the living areas as the van is too short to squeeze in otherwise.

  11. Is he still inside?

  12. Not sure..............If Bradders took more photos, we might be able to spot him....

  13. No idea who or what you are talking about.

And if I did I think you'd find him under a patio, not plush led lighting...

Few wrinkles but hey, thats an age thing ;)

  14. Are you sheeting the back of the seats to the roof? Just if you have lose tools etc it would stop them.

Sorry seen the panel on the first PIC, you're probably refitting that.

  15. Nope evo, its gone never to return. The cushions laid out are going to be fitted in that area, and I will add a backing panel which will sit about half way up. I want the light.

I shouldn't have any tools floating about.

  16. If you could come across some cheap polycarbon or thick perspex. Its expensive new. It would let light in and help protect you. Then again if everything is tied down. Just thinking of your safety.

  17. Its going from van to day van/camper, so won't be any tools banging about. Other option would be a trellis/mesh of some kind, but most cope ok with no bulkhead

  18. It might be worth looking in the small ads for an old/damaged caravan. Then you could transplant any features you wanted over to your new look van.

  19. That's what I did with the cushions. There isn't room for kitchen etc with the layout I want (lots of hold stuff to transport) and I've decided I can't be bothered trying to add hook up power etc.
