I took the cover off the battery bay. I can see the red battery post but not the black. Can anyone tell me how I get to it?
You can see the live feed - on the other side where i guess the negative / black feed is there is a big plastic electrical block that has fuses etc. How do you get to the negative though so you can attach an eyelet connected to a cable?
There must be a faster holding the fuse block in place? Will it not lift off once the faster is removed?
I couldn’t see the bolts to unfasten it. Item 9 seems to come up from underneath but I couldn’t see it from on top - how do you get to it? Can you see more bolts holding that cover down? Sorry to be thick. I’m sure it’s really obvious
TBF it looks like an appalling installation - it will be in your manual however, this link to a base model maybe the same: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1097237/Ducati-Monster-1200.html?page=226 Have fun
I think I’m going to give up with it and just stick an SAE connector on the end of my garmin power cable. I’ll use the optimiate lead installed by the dealer/previous owner for charging when the bike is parked up and then plug it in to my Garmin lead when out on the bike. Shame really as I’ll have to take off the seat every time I park up at home to do the above
Yeah seen that - he drops the battery out the bottom. I tried that and failed - could persever I guess but seems a lot of work just to get to the negative lead
You have to get underneath the bike to release the battery holder and drop the battery out from under the bike . I'm not sure Ducati could have made it any more inaccessible. Jump to 1 min in and watch from there.
Ifits for satnav power whilst on the go shouldn't you be taking power from a switched feed i.e one that's only live when the ignition is on and earthing to the frame?
I guess - I could splice in to a cable powering the rear light I guess but if I’m honest I’m scared to cut any wires on the bike.
What about the horn? It's probably more easily accessible. Take the feed from the feed to the horn and earth to the frame.
I'm wanting to do this all under the seat as I have routed the bundle of leads that come out of the powered sat nav mount back there.
If it’s anything like the underneath of my seat (MY09 1100S) the wires have been well and truly hidden, but, as you said, the only available ‘always on, when in motion’ feed will be that going to the rear light which you’ll have to splice into
Here's my 2c worth if that can help. If you're trying to reach the battery to install and SAE cable for either your heated gear or a battery tender then yes, it's a hassle but I have had it done. However, if it's to install low power for an electronic device such as a phone or GPS, then there are simpler solutions.
