.......renewal time. Just got my renewal for a multi car policy. Sons Clio and my 330d coupe. £620 for BM and £1510 for Clio. Fek that. So after a bit of price comparison, I have the BM for £297.30*!! and the my son got his Clio for £909! Strange bit? My insurance is with the same company (Admiral), who came in at £330 on Google compare. Thought I would check out the difference with the car on the drive and not in a locked garage, bingo! a cheaper quote.* wtf? Probably statistics eh? Any way, never just accept the renewal quote......
Same with me with admiral when I moved. Cheaper to insure the car in the drive rather than in the garage overnight.
its car insurance time next month for me. I'm not expecting a shafting. I was informed about something interesting the other day. Apparently protecting your NCB not only costs a little more, but pigeon holes you as a slightly higher risk (perhaps because they thing you half expect to make a claim) Not sure how true it is, but I've never protected my (full) NCB and frankly i pay less than anyone else I know for insurance. (Ducati £51 per year, CBR £80 per year and Seat Leon £260 per year) so there may be some validity in it.
The other half has been getting insurance quotes as the company car goes back next week. It has been quote interesting. He was worried about lack of no claims and got a letter from the company insurance to support many years no claim driving. But when playing around with quotes it made absolutely no difference between zero no claims or punting for the full amount, adding business use made no difference. His speeding endorsement varied from not interested to maybe a tenner. It might be at his age the risk is minimal but it has been interesting. Our son has fully comp insurance on an 05 plate 1.4 diesel Festa for £580 with an own fault claim pending, we rang the insurers up and went through everything to make sure that was right as he is only 20. We have decided we really don't understand how it works except that shopping around makes sense.
Risk is a funny thing. I can insure a Maserati 4200 cambiocorsa or Quattroporte for less than a golf GTI. I can insure a Porsche 911 or Mercedes CLK 55 AMG for about the same money as a Seat Leon FR DSG, all of which are cheaper than the golf GTI or VW Scirocco DSG. This all makes choosing my next car rather difficult...
