Car Insurance

  1. It’s that time again when I have to re-insure the car.
The latest quote is pure silly going off what I paid last year
The car is a year older, I’ve another years of no claims experience yet still the quote is up markedly on the previous year

Anyone have any reliable brokers they can recommend?

    Ta

  2. I use a well known price comparison site and then call my insurers (Admiral) quoting the cheapest offers. My renewal quote for 2 cars dropped from £950 down to £610

  4. I changed over from the company I had been with for decades because they jacked up my premium by £300. I have my bikes insured through Bike Sure and they provided me with a good policy with my 9 year’s NCB for £610 which I believe is very competitive for my Mercedes Sports.

  7. Most people I know seem to be in the same boat with insurance premiums and the price increases are unprecedented. It seems that every company is trying to do the same, broadband, mobiles etc. All we can do now is shop around and as a new customer with the new supplier get a better deal.

  8. Can someone please do loads of research into this car insurance lark and let me know the best way to go. Ta…

I can’t be arsed doing it myself. I find it quite tedious and dull. So much so I can’t concentrate. Thanks again :):upyeah:

  10. I’ve used ‘quote me happy’ (part of Aviva) for a number of years now. They gave consistently good quotes and renewals, and even though I do a comparison each year they are always with a few pounds so I stay with them.

Of course it might be just cos I’m an old git, living in an area they like…

  13. Try Bike Sure, you might be surprised as I was when More Than jacked up my premium for no reason.

  14. A word of warning about Admiral. A few years ago a woman ran into the back of my then Saab. When reporting it to them one of the questions they asked was 'Is there any existing damage the rear bumper?'. Being an honest mug I said there was a sight scratch on the side opposite from the accident damage, you would barely notice it. The bastards logged it as an "incident" giving it the same date as the accident itself. The next time I was looking at bike insurance it was being flagged as a "claim" with a subsequent effect on the premium. I was not at all happy. I complained to Admiral, who I was no longer insured with, but got nowhere.

  15. Most of the insurers are jacking up the premiums just now with huge increases. We must all refuse to to pay the higher costs and if they refuse to reduce the costs to a sensible level look elsewhere.

  16. I've insured my cars with privilege for many years.
The premium this year only went up @£35 over last year, which considering what I've seen in the press etc felt like it was OK.

I have to admit to not comparing that price this year on a comparison website, but when I've done it in the past, the last time being 2021, the small savings of £10-£20 on a £400 premium didn't feel like they were worth the hassle.
Especially as I was very happy with how Privilege handled a claim I had to make a few years ago when I was hit by another vehicle.

  17. My renewal came through the end of last week and I note that the paperwork clearly references the total loss settlement they paid out last October and the higher residual value of the replacement car. Pleasantly surprised the premium has only increased by 30% (£90). Andy

  18. My girl had just renewed her insurance
She is with Tesco and a black box
Her premium was up £50 we had to take off she is no longer a student and it rose another £100
We declined renewal and compared omg as a new customer it rose again another £200 to £700 and another quote as a new customer with Tesco £900!!!
So we quickly went back to Tesco to say could she have the renewal quote and they agreed £560

  19. Good lord there’s clearly no sense to this business
I’ve just insured the Monster it was £40 less than last year, the car however has risen by £250!
    Bonkers.

  20. Car insurance has risen dramatically this past 12 months. Presumably because everyone is out and about having accidents again.
