After seeing the below picture of Kope's 999R I have been thinking of sourcing a 2005+ 999R Carbon Nose without the extra vents and fitting it to my 2004 749R. I like the exposed carbon weave on the 2004 bikes as this matches all the other panels but not sure the extra vents look as good.... I am aware the screens will need to be changed however I already have a DP screen for the 2005 fairing.
I wouldnt . I have the newer one but like the earlier one just as much . Keep it original it looks great.
Honestly, not fussed either way looks good in either....hth... Not a huge job to change over, so why not?
I went the other way - put a 2004/5 nose on my 06 999s. I like the extra vents myself. They both look bl**dy gorgeous though, and that photo of Koen's 999r is an all-time classic.
Looks way better with the newer nose cones! The newer cone looks cleaner and more streamlined. The extra vents make the front look way too overcrowded and busy. Not to mention they are superfluous! Were they added to let in more water and debris to damage the magnesium headlight buckets!? There is a reason they stopped adding them to the later models. They didn't look good and they did not add anything to the performance or protection of the bike. I just added the 04 749R side carbons to my 2005 749R, but also upgraded my 2005 plastic nose cone with a 2005 999R carbon nose cone. Fits perfectly and looks sooooo much better! Of course everyone has their own unique view of what looks good and what does not, but to me the 05/06 nose cones are vastly superior in both form and fashion. Do it Putney!
