carbon air tubes again...

  1. whilst my bike is getting road ready again i saw some tasty carbon air tubes (QB) on a customers machine....ive been bleating on about buying a pair, but at nigh on £300 they aint cheap, plus id need the BMC filters, pricey again...(i wouldnt opt for bell mouth filters as i had one that caught fire a few years ago...

Any thoughts, recommendations on carbon tubes that will replace OE, ie accept indicators...? ditto recommendations on filters for aftermarket tubes?

  2. Not sure what model you have, but I not long ago bought some carbon moto ones for my 748 and very happy with them, and think they were only £139.95

  3. wow thats very cheap..theyre for my 916 so im guessing theyre the same...what air filter(s) are you using?

  4. Glass fibre with a carbon top top weave. I use them on the 853 shed race bike, cheap enough to wreck and replace.

  5. QB Carbon make some nice stuff, not cheap at £280 but top quality. I've used JHP and better still pipercross 1 piece over the bell mouth filters in the past, might lose a bit of the amazing induction noise, and a couple of BHP, but nothing better to protect the engine internals. I'm currently using some home made items though as i now just do the odd track day on it.

  6. These ones arent glass fibre, i know what you mean as my belly pan is fibre glass with a carbon weave layed on, they have put them up by a tenner now but still very cheap for the quality http://bit.ly/13Nwk9F

  7. tasty....

so are the carbon moto airtubes fibreglass or not?

  8. Does it matter?

I mean, is it the performance you want/need, or do you just want to replace some naff plastic for not much lay out?

  9. I'm 100% sure mine aren't, whether that's how they use to make them I'm not sure, but I've had the air tubes, swing arm cover, chain guard and sprocket cover and all been carbon and very good quality and finish

  10. I have Ducati Performance ones which have the air filter runners in them and indicator mounts to save messing about with clogging up your airbox with filters.

I do use Pipercross air filters with them and they're not too difficult to get in and out - in fact I took them out tonight to clean the air filters and put them back in again!

  11. ive ordered a pair of the carbon moto items recommended by Bish, so i'll let you know what theyre like when they turn up...Hopefully it wont be too long...im waiting on the garage locating an alternator cover since my chain snapped and put a hole in it, so im keeping my fingers crossed that she'll be back on the road...

4 years off due to flaking wheels, then i get the bugger back on the road and 4th ride out she's in the garage again....fekks sake...

  12. What ya going to do for air filters?

  13. the tubes rocked up this morning...they look absolutely fine...

for filters (im assuming OE wont fit as the tubes are a single piece), i was gonna plump for a pair of BMCs..just trying to find somewhere that sells them for reasonable money..

  14. Cool - keep us posted...:upyeah:

  15. I got my BMC filters some time back from a shop on E bay Italy. I can't remeber exactly how much they were but I know they were a lot cheaper than I could get them in the UK even with the postage.
I've lost the details do a search you may get lucky. in the meantime I will have a look round the garage and see if I have anything laying about with his details on

  16. Check inside to see if they have the channels to accept an air filter - you may be lucky!

Mine are one-piece Ducati Performance ones and you can see a U-shaped channel running inside, along with a holding flap at the entrance, which hold the filter in place.

Bloody fiddly to get in mind!
