Carbon Fibre - Who Supplies The Best Match For Ducati’s Oem Stuff Today

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by West Cork Paul, Nov 18, 2023.

  1. It’s a bit of a quasi technical question - a two fold question really;

    1. has anyone any experience with Ducabike’s carbon fibre bits? Quality?

    2. how close a match is it to the modern DP stuff?

Asking for a friend (genuinely) who has a V4 Pikes Peak incoming in the new year. He’s ordered a CF rear hugger from Ducati but also wants a CF chain guard and a CF SSSA cover. Obviously whatever he puts in those positions needs to match the weave and finish of the DP hugger.

    TIA

  2. As Ducati don’t make either of those parts, whatever you (he) end up buying, will be taking a chance. I’m in a similar boat and have found very little carbon available. FWIW, Ducabike isn’t on my list of suppliers for anything Ducati related. Andy

  3. I don’t know why, but whenever I hear or see anything by Ducabike, I just think it sounds cheap. I’ve got two or three of their products, they seem ok, but I’m still not sure if any of it is any good tbh.

  4. interesting comments from the two of you, thanks.

I’ve bought a few things from Ducabike (dbkspecialparts.com) and found them to be excellent quality, plus their customer service is second to none. If I order on a Monday it’s with me, via DHL, on a Wednesday, and that’s from Italy to Ireland.

Admittedly ordering direct for you guys, since Brexit, probably doesn’t make much sense though, you’re better off going through their UK dealer, Conquest Carbon.

However, back to the point. Has anyone had their CF?

AFAIK (and @Sev would know more) there are really only a couple of CF fabricators/manufacturers in Italy so wherever Ducati and anyone else source it from is likely to be the same manufacturer.

  5. Thread title changed to open up the question. This will be pertinent for any owner who has some OEM carbon but wants to add more and can’t get it from Ducati.

Does anyone have any experience in matching 3rd party CF with the stuff Ducati are using these days?

  6. Full Six is probably the closest of the named brands but it’s not a direct match.
RSR Moto carbon was good match for Aprilia. Not tried their Ducati gear though.

  8. Any of the non Ducati carbon on my V4 Pikes Peak either came from Carbonworld UK or Vulturbike, and the weave is the same as the Ducati weave on both.

  9. I've got RSR side panels and rear hugger on my 1098s looks about the same as The Ducati front mudguard
Mind you they are some distance apart

  10. definitely Sev would have a useful opinion on all that's available if he has looked at them. Always been pleased with Full Six whenever i've seen it in the flesh. Also, for the record, although unusual, didn't Ducati sub- out Carbonfibre work at times anyway - i.e. how much of it was ever done "in-house"?.

  11. DP carbon screen with Fullsix wings, I can’t tell the difference other than the Fullsix seems better quality. Ilmberger is a good match too..even the standard Carbon on my PP varies slightly, must be from different manufacturers.

  12. Speed Carbon, end of… Their products are regarded by most to be at the very top. They have to ship from Italy but are very reasonable.

  13. After a day of asking around and much feedback I now know Ilmberger make the Ducati DP stuff. However, Ilmberger have a somewhat limited range for the Pikes Peak at present, hence why Ducati do too.

It also appears, after much feedback and seeing photos, Vulturebike have the closest match. Obviously they don’t make it themselves but buy it in and they only place the order with the manufacturer once you r ordered (and paid) them.
I am guessing, based upon other info I got today, that whoever makes it for Vulturebike also makes it for Speed Carbon.

Fortunately, I can still buy from an EU source without financial penalties.

Thank you all for your input and feedback :upyeah:

  14. Hi Paul. It’s Speed Carbon who have all the moulds and supplies the other companies. Not so sure on the newer stuff though. :upyeah:

  16. I don't know about the Multistrada but after 25 years of testing and fitting different CF parts to my bikes over the years, I can say with 100% certainty that IMHO Lieb Carbon is head and shoulders above any manufacturer in terms of fit, finish and quality. Better than Fullsix, Ilmberger, MS Productions et al. The only exception being Riba Composites who make the CF frames and swingarns for Ducati. There is a lot of tat on the market, one such culprit being Carbonvani. Their products are fit only for the nearest skip.

  17. Thank you and done :)

  18. Just to update this I ended up buying a fair few bits of CF from Vulturbike for the Pikes Peak and the quality is good :upyeah: and matches the matt finish and weave of the DP carbon rear hugger (they also do a gloss obviously) but we went down the matt path.

I also bought a few bits from DBK Special Parts which also are good quality and matches.

The hand guards are particularly good as they’re finished off inside too, many you see on the market are rough as F on the inside.
