899 Carbon Heatshield

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by James85, Sep 25, 2015.

  1. Looking for feedback from people who have fitted a carbon heatsheild to the rear exhaust pipe. What make did you buy? And how is it holding up with regards to heat exposure and discolouring ect?

  2. This is what happened to the 100% carbon heatshield on my 1199. I had mine imported from Canada from a place called Moto Composites as it was a slightly cheaper way of getting the large heat shield compared to UK stockists. I thought buying the 100% carbon part would mean it didn't burn, but clearly it did. I'm sure there are people out there who have spent a bit more and got a better quality product.

I've now fitted an ilmberger carbon ceramic part that will hopefully not burn.

  3. This is what I was afraid of!!

  4. My rear header is both ceramic coated and heat wrapped too. I don't want to imagine what it would have looked like next to an exposed rear header.

  5. Everything I have read says that all carbon is a disaster on the rear pipe so I steer clear, are u dead set on it? If so maybe consider ceramic coating

  6. As a above, my rear header is ceramic coated internally and externally and wrapped with titanium wrap and my carbon still got burnt. I think the only way to go is the ilmburger ceramic coated carbon heat shield, but it ain't cheap!

  7. I've thrown the heat shield away, my inconel system dispense's the heat that well

  8. Wonder how akrapovics Carbon heatsheilds can survive ok???

  9. Guess it could be a few things, it might be a better quality product, maybe it has a ceramic coating underneath it or something? It's a lot smaller so won't hold as much heat and the akrapovic system probably dissipates better than our standard stainless headers.

  10. Some of them seem to have intake vents, maybe it cools okay at speed

  11. MattM has cut out vents and still discoloured!!

  12. It had already burnt when I cut the vents out. Ironically it started to burn where I'd cut the vents too so if anything that actually made it look worse. I just cut my losses and bought the carbon ceramic part.

  13. Any pics Matt??

  14. Pics of what James, the new carbon ceramic heat shield?

  15. I don't have a picture of the one fitted to my bike at the moment, so this is one I found on a google image search. They obviously used a flash when taking the photo which has made it look a little shiny. It has a matte finish rather than gloss. I'll get a picture of mine as soon as I can...

  16. Keep us posted on how it's holding up

  17. Will do! Although i'm pretty confident this heat shield won't burn. Here's some pics of it on my bike btw, I actually think it looks pretty decent! :upyeah:
