Carbon Tab Repair

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by MarketSquareHero, Aug 3, 2023.

  1. I have broken a tab on a carbon fibre panel.
Can anyone recommend anything I can use to repair this?
Will an epoxy resin be ok?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

  2. I had a tab break on an MV side panel I had some carbon reinforced filler. It worked for me
If its just small use super clue and bicarbonate of soda

  3. Thanks for that.
It's a tab you slide one of the metal clips on which takes a bolt so needs to be up to the job.
The joys of carbon. Will we ever learn?

  4. …and bicarb of soda-explain a little, please?

  5. There us a repair glue that is often recomended on here the name of which I cannot recall. You get exactly the same results with bicarb and super glue

  6. So just mix the two? I have a cracked S4R rear hugger which I don’t want to lose as it’s original.

  7. With that I would use something different
    1) carbon reinforced filler on the underside then sanded smooth
    2) another layer of carbon on the outside rather than explain that google "Easy Composites" and watch their tutorials on carbon wrapping

  9. You don’t mix it before you need to form the shape as it sets immediately. For me you either make a ‘mould’ for the liquid or the powder first then add the other part.

  11. Ended up with the gorilla epoxy resin.
Left it 24 hours before attempting to fit on the bike and touch wood all seems well.
Didn't swing on the bolt when tightening but I think it should hold.
