I know these this has been discussed before, but can somebody remind me of the origin of these: This one is a little scabby, and appears to have been badly fibreglassed to a hacked off section of a standard seat unit. Are they all like that? The bond has broken, but is going to be really easy to re-do. Not sure if I'm going to keep it or not for my 999, or even if I like it with the extended back to replace the Exhaust cover. Although it would be easy to cut off.
That looks like a mashup of the RS seat and the stock seat, the carbon part being the RS seat with the exhaust shield and the plastic bit being the part that allows it to bolt to the stock subframe. I had a fibreglass version of the RS seat for trackdays and the RS subframe is completely different to the point whereby I'd cut so much away there was nothing left to mount to on the stock subframe, this looks like someone had the same problem but had an original seat they've butchered to get it to fit.
Thanks guys. I've stuck it in the garage and won't get a chance to look at it until Friday afternoon now, but may plonk it on the bike to see how it looks. I'm happy I can redo the joining of the two pieces much better than it has already been done if I decide to keep it. the trouble is, whoever made the join expected the Fibreglass to stick to the paint and ABS, which obviously it won't. Unless of course somebody does make me an offer I really can't refuse.
Hey McF It doesn't have to be Carbon at all, but until I've seen it on the bike I don't even know if I like the shape or the Carbon look. If I do like the look of it I could part paint it. The reality is that in this case I could easily do some Man-maths to justify that it doesn't owe me much, so if I like it I can put some of my time in it to repair it and certainly wouldn't want to spend any money on an alternative. My other option for it is to simply sell it to add to the project funds pot.
I couldn't resist a quick look at this whilst forcing myself to take a lunchbreak. Aren't lunchbreaks good when working from home Of course you are correct @Sev, it's far too wide to even look sensible over the stock exhaust and exhaust cover:
Mind you, I think I'll spend some time trying it on the bike Friday afternoon anyway as it fits really nicely over this:
I have a stock carbon cover from a 999r if your interested, I have a full carbon seat unit aswell, shame yours is damaged as I plan to cut mine down, would have been a good swap.
