Cat & Exhaust Flap Removal

  1. I am toying with the idea of making my own exhaust for my 1st gen 1100s, (I used to make custom stainless exhaust for cars) but I will have to remove the cat and the exhaust flap thing. Is it ok to? I think the O2 sensor is pre cat so shouldn't put EML on(I might b wrong) but I don't know what the exhaust flap does, maybe helps with engine braking??

  2. The flap is to restrict noise levels to pass regs, I've binned mine and it's made the bike smoother trough the mid rev range

  3. They can all be disabled in the ECU so you don't get errors for the Lambda and EXBV.

  4. can that be done at any dealership with a standard ecu?

  5. Well I tried to remove the flapper valve flap but the screws must be glued in they wouldn't budge !
Just removed the cable end from the valve works a treat and very easy to do.

  6. What position is the flap in ????
I drilled the rivets out on the flap took 5 minutes

  7. Valve is sprung loaded open. No rivets just cross head screws.

  8. Sorry your right they are cross headed screws that have been spot welded in, I tried to chisel the weld off but ended up drilling em out

  9. That would explain why I couldn't get them out.

  10. I did a thread on removing the flapper valve.... With loads of pics.... Its here somewhere...

  11. Cant find the link

  12. Just search for flapper in the hyper area... Its there... Ive just looked at it...

  13. Yep found it thanks. Just disconnecting the cable seems to work as well.

  14. Yeah....I was just trying to be belt and braces...
