Cat N Or High Mileage

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Simon Norton, Jun 10, 2023.

  1. Which would you be more likely to buy

    2019 on both
One is 5700 mileage cat N
    Other is
    15200
    Both hyper sp 950

Might just have to buy an in-between one till I find an the unicorn 1100 Evo sp.

    Thank you in advance

  2. I’d be more tempted by higher miles rather than cat N….just always a lot harder to sell a Cat bike in future. I’m sure others will have other ideas

  3. As an in between bike neither, both will be difficult to sell buyers will be put off by the insurance claim of the one and the higher mileage of the other.

If it was a keeper I’d take the higher mileage.

  4. Depends on price and condition. Nothing wrong with cat n - a well maintained low mile one that was a write off because it had a scratch on the frame and swingarm is a way safer bet than a high miler that may need gearbox, heads, god knows what….all depends which end of the lens you look thru.

I’ve owned both. Both should have a price which equates what they are, and selling a cat n has never been a bigger issue than one with high miles or limited service history….!

  5. Either one would be fine, I own both a high milage bike and a couple of cat N bikes, I’ve never had any trouble with any of them. One of my bikes was a stolen recovered and immaculate apart from 3 wires being cut! Cheap to buy and cheap to sell on when the time comes.

  6. What price are the two bikes in question?

  7. The high mileage has standard almost everything and is £9500

The cat N has full system plus a couple of shiny bits and is up for £10500.

  8. After carefully checking the bike out I'd go for the cat N bike probably. But is 15k really considered high mileage? Would've thought more like 25 or 30k was no?

  9. High miler all day long, you may average less over the time you have it.
    15K is not bad.
The insurance damage will always be there.

  10. I've had a few CAT N bikes, I've generally trashed them on track and then sell them at a discount price. The bike will be fine it's just an issue when you want to sell it or trade it in, it will always be a lemon. The condition of the bike is more important than the mileage in this case.

  12. I'd hang it out until an 1100 evo sp turns up, coz u know as soon as you spend your readies the perfect bike will show up.

  13. Ow it does every time. I bought a 1098s streetfighter to "get me by" so I don't rush finding the right one.

  14. There are bikes for sale occasionally on the UK Hyper FB page (if you can bear to wade through all the bling, rim tape & other shite on there...;))

  15. Defo high miles over Cat N.........
As previously mentioned,it's not an issue when you own it,but cld become a mare trying to offload at a later date.......

  16. have gone Cat N or similar, older equivalent/needing general repair, car or bike, for most of my life, but not saying it suits everyone. Buying any car or bike is always a gamble in one way or another, try and pick the one that suits you best depending on how much of a chancer you are.

  17. The mileage is the the first consideration when buying a used bike or car. Obviously all the other factors have to be considered as well before a decision to buy is made. Road tests are essential too including with a bike that the seat height and weight are acceptable to the rider.

  18. It's not unknown for Cat vehicles to have the big damage replaced, and then they get sold on as just having been scratched etc.

  19. This ^. IMO, waste of money buying twice and the insurance right off is only £2000 less than a main dealer price for a perfect one. Andy
