He eventually managed 11th position for tomorrow grid. https://www.crash.net/motogp/results/979959/1/catalunya-motogp-barcelona-full-qualifying-results
I liked when Marquez asked Miller for a tow in qualifying and Miller gestured how much you paying me , https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....-tow-yesterday-honda-wont-get-concessions?amp
Entertaining MotoGP race and FQ handed a further three second penalty for being improperly dressed which drops him to sixth place. https://www.motogp.com/en/news/2021...urther-three-second-catalan-gp-penalty/377918
The only comment I can find is that the zip opened and he couldn’t close it again. It clearly didn’t burst open as it was zipped up again after the race. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.crash.net/motogp/results/980173/1/2021-catalunya-motogp-barcelona-full-race-results?amp
I understand he did not do it to display his bare chest... Airbag mishap, we read over here. I find it weird to penalize a rider for this...
A very strange thing to do mid race unless he was being stung by an insect etc? I think it shows his mental frailty and quite frankly his race result should be cancelled unless he has a very good reason we have yet to hear about. The consequences of coming off with open leathers doesn’t bear thinking about. Any way on a lighter note a decent day chez Ducati.
Should have been black flagged as soon as his leathers came open but a three second penalty five hours after the end of the race shows race direction are pretty hopeless at making decisions.
Sorry, but I have to disagree on this. Here’s what I read: he opened his leathers for the last five laps (not half the race). He did so because his air bag inflated for no apparent reason and the pressure on his torso was to great for him to continue to handle the bike. This allowed him to finish the race. He should have been awarded 3 bonus seconds for bravery, if you ask me... There was no danger to other riders. If the course direction had deemed it dangerous for FQ, which it was, obviously, they should have raised a black flag. Instead, the complaint came from some other racing teams, who complained after the race. Now I call that a pretty shitty way to get points off the leader. Nothing wrong about FQ mental abilities, as far as I am concerned. Results speak for themselves. Just a bunch of sissies trying to find any way to deny him his well earned points. Just shut up and race, FFS!!
I think you'll find the regulations state the riders leathers must be fastened and that in MotoGP they have to wear a chest protector which he threw away, that's the reason behind the penalty. Brad Binders airbag went off at Mugello when good old Marquez punted into him, he managed to ride around while it slowly deflated so clearly you can ride with them triggered.
As I said, unless there is a good reason I had yet to hear about. At the time of posting I had not heard any excuses. Now it’s just a case of what is an acceptable excuse , and how to deal with his not following rules? Time penalty is one way, black flag is also a way, i guess it must be open to interpretation and nothing black and white?
If, as previously said, the retrospective penalty was as a result of another team complaining to the stewards, one hell of a cheap shot and I can imagine the hostility if FB misses out on the title by less than 3 points. Have to say, I’m getting very disillusioned with the petty jobsworth decisions by the stewards, the dubious rider antics and the double standards so far this year. Did anyone catch what SP did to her ankle ? Probably fell off a pair of those ridiculous high heels she wears. Andy
I gathered from the commentary that SP broke her ankle during some ‘off road riding’, not sure if that has anything to do with the strange purple hue on the top of ML’s head though... Agree with you on the increasingly inconsistent stewards decisions though. No idea what happened to Fabio’ leathers/airbag, and am sure more detail to follow, but he has some history (compared to other riders) of his air bag going off during post race celebrations. IMHO no one should be allowed to continue racing with leathers unzipped both due to risk of abrasion, but also that airbag would be compromised as presumably they need to be constrained by the zipped leather suit. Looking forward to the Yamaha/Fabio/Alpinestars statement.
