hi guys brought a cbr400 bit of a nail to say the least, but the engine is sweet. its going to become a track bike, in process of being rebuilt. has anyone had any experiences, tips that may be useful, regarding tuning, handeling, braking?? parts that fit off other models??
Hiya, I had a CBR400RR Triarm for like two years before I bought my SS?? Fantastic bikes! Get yourself on 400GreyBike.com - Ultimate Performance Amazing forum! Very helpful advice from all...
Mate of mine got a proper bargain '29 from a dealer who sold it cheap because the cam chain needed replacing. (has gear driven cams...) Great bike.
Thats my place - and thank you. I have owned one NC29 and never again. I never took to it, but after around 20+ NC30's and 35's it was always going to struggle. Not great on the road, bit vibey at 8k motorway speeds, brakes felt a bit wooden - however they are capable of a 600 transplant which would make them pretty insane. The NC23 shown above are prefered by many (inc myself) and with some sensible mods make really great fun bikes which take some beating. If you have never tried a 30 or a 35 then try one, great fun - and next months BIKE mag is going to have a large interesting feature on 400's which may or may not contain around 30 of us at bruntingthorpe in a bit of a frenzy ;-)
Duke, may i ask why you are wanting the RVF ? looks i assume ? After owning loads of both 35 and 30, the 30 is the better bike by a long way, however the 35 is a looker while the 30 retains a more classic look - and oddly commands higher prices (original examples only) i took my K plate UK spec 30 and "built from spares" 35 to brunters and the 30 was the one prefered by most. the RVF forks are pretty poor compared to the late NC30 forks, and the rear shock on the RVF was junk from day1 That said even a nice NC30 will need a suspension overhaul now. get on 400greybike and keep an eye open and buy one from one of the members if you can. A good original 35 will cost around 2500, a good original 30 will be 1800 upwards, 89 RWB models you can add another grand, the seed scheme is heading that way too, and another grand for a UK spec bike.
I had an RGV250L then an RVF400RR before moving onto the 748. I now have a CBR400RR-K (NC23 Tri-Arm) in the garage in bits that I am restoring - at £150 it was a steal! The engine service on the CBR was dead easy as the engine is out. I need to replace an oil seal but it runs sweet. I think a good freshen up all round (new fork oil, refurb the shock, etc) and we'll see how she goes next year...
I have had three NC29's, 30k on the first, 10k on the 2nd, 100 miles on the third. Sweet easy handling, you can get away with sooo much on these due to the size and I learnt to get my knee down on my first! If you are over 5,8, forget it but they arepretty bulletproof. The only faults I heard of (but did not experience) are the rectifier (hmm, sound similar!), and thats about it! Power is linear, gear driven cam noise is awesome and keep it singing above 7k and they go well. Mine had a Beet Titanium system, K&N panel filter and I derestricted the clocks (tab on the back of the speedo). Cracking second bike or trackday tool, but you could always squeeze a blade lump in with standard bodywork.....stealth
This is round the corner to me, pretty vague description and wonder what they are worth? HONDA VFR400 NC30 | eBay
I had a NC30 as my first bike for a couple of years. I was 19 and paid £1300 to insure it!!! Wicked bike. At 6 foot 2 I didn't find it too uncomfortable. Thought about getting one again.
