Ive noticed my centre stand rubber has basically burnt away after 5,700 miles , Dealer wants a week to get one ! Ive improvised with a rubber from my parts box 1974 Suzuki GT550 ! I noticed that on the cat box is another bracket with a hole that I am positive never had a rubber from new , Determined to make a good job I get yet another 70s Suzuki rubber that fits the hole well , When I put the bike onto the sidestand and got underneath to view my handywork I noticed the two brackets are wildly out of alignment , My two rubbers are making contact and doing a good job but was alarmed to see how far out the two brackets were .. bent centre stand ? Im sure its not, certainly seems fine and im sure ive never done anything severe enough to bend it , could it be that the bracket on the cat box should have had a much larger rubber ? I have looked at the replies to a thread on burnt stand rubbers but nobody mentions a misalignment of the brackets Anybody noticed this on their bikes ?
The rubber on my stand only touches half the bracket on the cat. The bracket on the cat is also bent in the middle my guess is this to reduce the area of contact between the rubber and a hot cat.
Thanks Richard , Thats exactly how mine is , at least I know now I havent anything seriously amiss , I put the bend down to fact that the bracket had been repeatedly whacked by the stand flicking up with only a bit of baked hard rubber left to absorb the impact
