Ceramic coating / Exhausts

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Hutch, Feb 14, 2014.

  1. Hi all, I'm wondering if any of you guys have had your pipes coated? (sounds wrong), I've just sent my system off to Camcoat Warrington for treatment.. Fantastic results from them in the past.

I've had the valve cut out & a straight piece welded in, cut off the heatshield lugs & will run without one.. Tested this last season & its not like that shield makes a difference unless you are stuck at lights on a red hot day & lets face it its the UK..

So, any pictures of ceramic coated pipes? Mine will be black but I'm not fussy.

  3. Cheers bud, just had a butchers in the gallery too... Looks well & cant wait to have it all back together... She's had her new BMC filter, a tub of Motul 300v, all her fluids swapped & now just waiting on the system...

  4. I was pissed off with the stainless on my full Termi system turning rusty all the time. Last winter I spent the best part of 3 days polishing it. Within a few weeks it was as bad ever.

This winter I sent the pipes to Camcoat and had them coated inside and out. The external finish is CermaKrome although it's not quite like chrome plate, looks like very highly polished aluminium.
Sorry I haven't got a pic of them on the bike yet. These photos don't really do them justice.

  5. Your wish............................

Done 4 or 5 year back I think. I do not do a lot of miles, but the pipes are like I got them. I left the valve in when it came back it wasn't a problem although your solution is even nicer

I have a pretty crap photo of just the collector up to the end cans on its own that's what your are after and want to see, but I reckon the 2 above give you a better idea of what it will be like when finished

  6. Does it help keep your leg and foot from getting hot? Is it noticeable?

  7. I suppose it does but TBH I can't say I noticed any difference

I done it coz I'm a lazy sod and never polished an exhaust pipe in my life and when all these blue/black shitty marks come through, it make the bike look pants.

  8. Mines been on about 9 k still as good as new - I chose the slightly metallic greyer mat finish [IMG]

This Zircotec coating reduces surface heat by about 1/3 - not cooked myself yet

  9. All good & thanks guys for the photos.... Hoping they get their butts in gear & send them back to me this week... I'll pop some photo's on when they are all fitted up.

  10. As soon as I trace some 70mm headers i'll be looking to get this done myself.

  12. Looking good Hutch

  13. Didn't have any noticeable effect on my Termis and lets face it of all the cans I've seen (so called quality ones) Termis are by far the worst build quality.

Much the same as normal, just greased them a little with assembly lube as I normally do and they slid together. If it was tight afterwards I'm sure a drill and a sanding wheel with some Emery would sort it out.

I meant to add that when I got mine done I also got them to do the forward small heat shield as it was discoloring badly. Worked a treat.

    Just my experience

  14. They didn't coat my joints they put together and marked out where the coating needed to finish , so slid together as normal.

  15. You do have a point there Steve with ceramic

I can just remember that it was all good. As with Char's note if you are concerned just tell them not to coat the joints. Camcoat have done a few pipes for me and they have always been first class in replying and responding to requests in my experience.

Can't help you on that one as I had blanking plugs in as I'm running the performance chip with the standard pipe (1098 Racing is the Dash display) and its open loop, so I never had occasion to remove them, before or after.

The valve however when I got it back was a little sticky but I just cycled it manually it a few times and it started to work fine. If that is any indication I reckon you'll be fine. I'd put the question to Camcoat and I reckon they will give you an honest answer

    Sorry can't help you more

  16. That black is looking pretty good :upyeah:
What type of cost is it? Certainly seems like a nice idea for my road bike which gets the worst of all weathers :frown:

  17. Its been a while as I said so I wouldn't like to say with any degree of certainty, think it was a couple of hundred, but that's off the top of my head.

The easy way is just to fire of a note to Camcoat in Warrington and ask them for a quote. You can see all the coatings and services on their webpage

    Why Ceramic Coat Exhausts?

    John

  18. I had the Termi headers for my MTS internally and externally coated with Cermachrome on the outside by Camcoat. The cost was £92 + VAT inc return carriage. So not expensive.

  19. Bear in mind I had the mid section in their Turbo Black & also sent off all my rearset components for the black treatment, a glossier finish that is alegedly bombproof... Just over £100 all in.

  20. Cheers bud.... Didnt get round to popping all the plastics back on over the weekend due to a few electrical problems with the bike that need sorting.... But yeah happy with the results.
