Hi guys, gals, Got the 916 all back together after a winter service and I had left what I thought was the easy job for last, chain adjustment.I noticed that swing arm sliders were missing so have ordered upper and lower, also noticed that chain had been rubbing on the underside of swing arm nothing major but still not good.So loosened pinch bolts got me C spanner did what it said in manual anti clockwise to tighten....well that is definatly wrong its the other way round on my bike, clockwise is tightening.Ive read about the eccentric bearing being at 6 0oclock.Do you think something is upside down.maybe it's a down under thing here in New Zealand, like water down the plug hole.Any advise will be great cheers
deffo anti clockwise to tighten on my 748.. I think! Lol... I'm trying to picture it now... Yep anti for sure. Ish... hope this helps...
Just loosen everything off and slowly move/adjust the adjuster, watch what's actually happening and adjust until you get the desired tension,r ember to keep moving the chain run as a worn chain can have tight spots and sometimes a perfect tension can be wrong ,if you can't get a constant chain tension on a complete rev of the chain your chain has stretched and needs replaced, best to do both sprockets as well, If you get confused with clockwise and anti, use a ratchet and set the direction before even looking at the fastener, remember lefty loosely righty tightey Sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs(it's a whiskey night)
Yeah totally agree with the lefty loosely.so how come the DUC manual says anti clockwise to tighten.I have no probs with tensioning the chain on the tight spot,it's just weird that I'm tensioning the chain clockwise.
I think with it being eccentric, if you go far enough clockwise it will start to tighten. As in the hole in the hub is off centre and rotating it effectively moves the wheel back or forth, so like a cam lobe, if you go far enough around either way you will hit the high point . I could be way wrong here....
Are you sure you have axle sitting in the bottom of the eccentric section? From recall that's where it should be, if you have it 180 degrees out you'll have working in reverse - which is what you describe maybe? Try a Google image search?
hoof still shit mate.. It's taking ages and doin my hed in!!! you get the key guard fitted? Get some pics of the beast up dude!
Yeah that's what I'm thinking eh.the chain has been rubbing on the underside of swing arm.i read in the Ducati section 8 suspension setting about the correct positioning for the hub being important.
If clockwise tightens your chain then it is 180 degrees out. The axle should be down at 6 o clock so when you tighten the chain the axle moves towards five o clock
Yeah Chiz me knee still dodgey, bike still not on road,I'm 48,bikes 20 this year, seems harder each year to keep on the road.but hey, she's still a stunner.pics coming when I take her to the beach over Christmas.carbon key guard still trying to find away to attach to tank.
ahh beach for Christmas, I miss that. We used to take the 4x4s and a keg up to murawai most years. My friend sent me some pics yesterday, she on hols in whitianga ( probably spelt that wrong, always have) looked amazing as ever
Yep it seems like mine is all up to cock!will have to sort that out next weekend. Thanks for the pic,ts making sense now.
Spelt right mate it's just pronounced fidianga now, like fongamata instead of wongamata.now it's Whaganui(fonganui)instead of good old wanganui.old John keys had enough and quit.sthwy1 to kaikoura still blocked. We felt the quake up here in the Waikato, the whole of NZ rattled that night.
I see you guys are also dropping the 'N' word from some of your rural area place names. 2016... About time really!
