1098 Chain Help

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by gremlyng, Aug 15, 2015.

  1. Not changed the chain and sprockets on my Duke before, just looking for some information regarding the rear sprocket.

I notice there seems to be lots of after market stuff, trying to work out what my options are.

Basically I need educating on the rear sprocket, any help or advice appreciated:-/

  2. I went with the Renthal QR carrier + RR4 520 pitch chain.
Looks great, allows sprocket changes, and is super quality.

    Renthal - RCW Carriers

  3. Was it big money to go down that route?

  4. Depends what you're trying to achieve. Standard sprockets are one piece steel (heavy) there are one piece hardened Ali (lighter) as an alternative as well as two piece (Renthal type) carrier and sprocket which make changing them quicker and easier as you just unbolt the sprocket and pull it off rather than having to undo the big hub nut and jiggle the whole assembly off. There are also options on chain & sprocket "thickness" standards 530 race spec is 520 (thinner lighter) obviously you'd need to change the front too if you go that route. Then there's ratios standards IIRC 15 Front 39 Rear, if you want better acceleration go up a couple of teeth on the back, or 1 down on the front (arguments may ensue) :)
So what would you like to achieve :Bookworm:

  5. Not sure, really. If I need to replace a part due to wear, I think it's nice to upgrade those bits with something that looks great and offers more performance if possible and within financial reason.

  6. I would go for a supersprox 2 up on the rear and standard 15T on the front

  7. I'm just looking to replace the chain and sprocket, not too bothered about having the ability to change the rear sprocket quicker in future, the original drive chain etc... lasted15k so this one hopfully will be the same, the bike will probably be sold long before it gets to 30k. I will definitely stick a DID x ring on and an quiet drive front. I'm not looking to play around with the amount of teeth, happy with the bike as std to be honest.

  8. Could someone please confirm if this is stock rear sprocket? or does it have an aftermarket sprocket hanger? If so how do I work out what sprocket will fit :-/

(I know it's filthy dirty, going to clean her up tomorrow)

  9. Looks like a quick change sprocket carrier to me

  10. Thanks for that, I now need to work out what brand of rear sprocket will fit it :-/ Not sure where to start.

  11. Start a fresh me thinks

  12. Really just for the sake of finding out what hanger is fitted, surely unless it has been fitted with some Chinese crap by the previous owner it's worth finding out, I don't have money to burn for the sake of it.
