1260 Chain Lube Suggestions......

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by pcn1, Sep 2, 2021.

  1. Just to further my conversation about chains, I need to buy some chain lube.
Now I haven't bought any in many years, last can was "Silkolene Pro Chain Synthetic"
Goes on and clings like a waxy finish, stays put mostly but I still get some residue fling off, and I try and not "over lube" the chain.

However I'm open to suggestions of anything new, or better on the market ?

    Cheers

  2. Gear Oil like wot it says in the manual ...

  3. Motul C5 chain paste, easy to apply, very little fling off and a tube lasts a long time, you don't need to use much to keep the chain lubed.

  4. Profi Dry Lube. No mess, easy to apply, no fling, What's more to like.

  9. I use 80w90 gear oil now ... a bit more time and care reqd when applying ....wiping off excess etc ... chain stays cleaner in my opinion.

I used to use Wurth before which is a different take on chain lubes but that was the best spray on chain lube I've used.

  10. Gear Oil, Wurth, Scottoiler, Cobra Nemo. All of these have worked for me but gear oil on a rag is cheapest.

  11. SDOC100 white chain lube. I’ve been using it for years, after testing most recommended ones, and it’s night and day the best.

  12. Scottoiler for me - brilliant!

  13. From that video Gear oil seems excellent for wear resistance, but it does fling and make a mess

I might try out the Maxima or XCP PRO which the seemed to recommend.

  14. Wurth Chain Wax. Zero mess.

  15. Wurth. If you are going to use anything use Wurth; cracking products, for all occasions, pricey though...

  16. As above the SDOC 100 white spray is the best ive come across. Been improved in the last 12 months too according to the new tin.
Incidentally, their chain cleaning gel is also amazing at cleaning old crud off your chain. Quite often get the 2 bundled together and well worth it.

  17. Motul dry lube, or if you dont mind a bit mess, spray on white chain grease. The grease will last longer, maybe a tour. Filthy as fcuk imo. Dry lube, great if a day rider.
All the other 'oils' just end up being a filthy black mess of oil and grinding paste.
Just done 600 + miles with dry lube. still looks good. No chain stretch.

  18. Scottoiler or proper 90 gear oil. (not ATF)
