Chain Replacement

  1. How often do you change chains on track bikes?

    Appreciate it's probably different for 600s, 1000s, 530 pitch, 520 pitch etc.

I'm thinking they will take a lot more strain than a road bike but shouldn't get so covered in shite.

  2. I carry a new chain along with a small number of spare parts like levers and foot rests on my track days but have yet to feel the need to change the one fitted. I ran the 853 for 2 years (about 13 or 14 days) and the 1098R for a similar sort of time and didn’t need to change a chain. Andy

  3. At say 150 mls per TD that's under 2k mls.

  4. A good quality chain, properly cleaned, lubricated and adjusted should last a lot longer than that. Use something like the ultra light race ones used by the teams in the BSB and you are probably talking a new chain every race weekend. Andy

  5. I've had the same Renthal 520 chain on my track 749R for years. Probably done about 3K miles on it and it looks fine to me.
