1260 Chain Tension

  1. Good evening. Took the bike out for it's first ride since having it's service last year. A fairly pleasant 100 miles with good riding company.
Now then. Giving the bike a wash i thought....that chain looks tight!
Applied the gauge and as you can see. Too tight.
Bike is in urban single rider etc
I'm just checking that my understanding of the gauge is correct.
The rivets should be centred on the 2 lines at rest, with no downward pressure on the chain. Which incidentally if you push down the rivets line up.
Just need to make sure i am correct before an angry phone call tomorrow!

    Thank you

  2. Yeah I think I'd slacken it off a bit. With you sat on it it would be even tighter

  3. It 100% would be! Christmas weight and all that.
So am i correct that just at rest it should be lined up. Not with any pushing down on the chain

  4. Yep

  5. Yeah, far to tight that
Just rotate the wheel and make sure it’s not a tight spot/ links causing the false reading, otherwise I would slacken it off, from my experience a little bit on the loose side is better for your bike and chain than to tight

  6. Yeah, especially if you're carrying some extra
    Christmas poundage

  7. Yes, too tight. The bike needs to be in urban mode, ignition on, rider only suspension setting but no one on the bike and on the side stand. Roll bike forwards and check in several places to find tightest spot.
